Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Following Joy and Anger , Blake moves to the perfume industry as the background for her latest novel, a competent mix of romance, history and intrigue. When Joletta Caresse inherits her family's perfume shop in New Orleans, she also becomes heir to the mystery that surrounds the firm's most important fragrance, Le Jardin de Courstet . The formula for the perfume, discovered during the 19th century by an ancestress named Violet, is lost when the only person who knows the secret dies suddenly without divulging it. Armed with Violet's diary, Joletta sets off for Europe to retrace the trip during which Violet originally discovered the perfume--and also shared a love affair with an artist named Allain. Before she leaves New Orleans, however, Joletta meets courtly, enigmatic Tyrone Kingsley Stuart Adamson IV--or Rone, as he calls himself--who both attracts and alarms her. Rone follows her abroad and though he saves her from death several times, she questions his motives. Entwining Violet and Allain's love story with that of their 20th-century counterparts, Blake also provides interesting material on the history of perfume.

From the Inside Flap

"Blake's a master at romantic fiction."
THE CHATTANOOGA TIMES
Joletta Caresse's beloved grandmother dies, taking with her the secret to the formula of a legendary perfume that is now the most sought-after perfume on the market. Joletta tries to track down the formula through journals written by her ancestress, Violet Fossier, who in 1854 made a grand tour of Europe.
As Joletta follows Violet's itinerary across the continent, the story goes back in time, to nineteenth- century Europe and a scandalous love affair that is intimately bound up in the mystery of the perfume. In the present Joletta finds herself attracted to--and suspicious of--Rone Adamson, a Southern playboy whose astounding knowledge of perfume makes Joletta wary. Yet his chivalrous charms prove too much for her scruples, and Jolettta succumbs to her dubious white knight, even as danger swirls around them....

I picked this book up on a lark. I have never regretted it. This is one of my truly favorite books. Jennifer Blake carefully interweaves the old story of Violet with the modern one of her great grandaughter Joletta. The mystery grabs you and holds you till the end. Having been to New Orleans once, this book always makes me want to return if only to walk into a small perfume shop and find a hidden garden....Enjoy!

I truly enjoyed this book. It was fun following Joletta to the different places she went and people she met; tracking possible clues from old family journals in search of a formula that may or may not exist. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a book that combines a little mystery and intrigue with a hint of romance and history.

Jennifer Blake's books are always very good and full of great descriptions that pull you into the time and place. Add mystery and tender romance and you'll lose yourself in her books. This one is especially interesting in that it involves reconstructing a special fragrance to carry on a legacy, yet finding a mystery. A diary from the past is the only link. Very surprising twist at the end. I recommend it. Tempted to go a full 5 stars but I can't do that for all of Ms. Blake's novels, so I must rank them against themselves. I can highly recommend all of her books.

I enjoyed the mix of the present search for the perfume ingredients with Violet's journal. An interesting mystery waiting to be solved, for the ingredients, Violet and Allain, as well as Joilett and Rone romance.

What a wonderful book! Well developed characters. A story the reels you in, but has you guessing until the very end! Adventure all over Europe. A wonderful HEA ending. I especially loved the flower-speak in this book. I learned something about Pansies I didn't know, and it was good! A very nice romance. Highly recommend!

Great story within a story. Dual love stories in past and present day. Wonderful characters and locales. Well written and editing was not bad. Actually liked the past story just a little better - more drama and suspense.

A slow starter.I found this hard to get into and it took me a long time to finish.Story was back and forth between journal entries and today's happenings of the recipient of the book.It wasn't a bad read but I enjoyed other Jennifer Blake books much more than this one.

Jennifer Blake's has become one of my favorite authors since getting a Kindle. This book gives you the best of both worlds in the romance genre as it's both a contemporary romance as well as an absorbing historical romance as the main character goes on a journey that her ancestor went on years ago. She finds out many things and has some of her own experiences and adventures along on her trip. In the meantime we also learn more and more of what happened back in the past so it's like getting two stories for the price of one. So far since reading Jennifer Blake's novels that have been released in the Kindle store, I've not been disappointed.
