5.0 out of 5 stars A joyous, brilliant explosion of harmonies and sounds December 17, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I got this album on a whim about a week ago, after buying San Fermin (which is also amazing, and features the vocals of the two women of Lucius) and hitting repeat on "Sonsick" about a million times. Now I cannot stop listening to Lucius (and San Fermin).

This is upbeat, joyful pop (indie? alternative? whatever, it's good) music minus the saccharine and vapid lyrics. Highlights for me are "Turn it Around", "Tempest", and "Don't Just Sit There", lively standouts that almost demand listeners dance and sing along, and "Go Home", a haunting, heart-wrenching ballad. But in all of the songs - even if the lyrics are biting or bleak - you can just hear how much these musicians enjoy what they are doing, and the feeling is somehow contagious. There's not a bad track on this album.

I recommend looking up live Lucius performances on youtube (Tiny Desk Concert is a good start) to get a better idea than what Amazon has up for samples. But really, just get this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars An eclectic and powerful album October 16, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Lucius' excellent debut is incredibly eclectic, veering from quiet and intimate folky tunes to soaring, exuberant anthems. A lot of the album has a dirty, reverbed-out and distorted sound that works surprisingly well given the general prettiness of the melodies and vocals. It's raw, emotional, and powerful all the way through. Easily in my top favorite albums of the year.

5.0 out of 5 stars How do I miss stuff like this?!!! December 8, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Ever scroll through the "Customers also bought" bar, sampling sometimes dozens of albums, often fruitlessly, looking for something new? That's how I stumbled upon Wildewoman. It's already made up for all that passed time... only 'problem' now is that I can't stop listening! There is 'Nothing Ordinary' about this band... phenomenal album. Every song is a gem. Only complaint, wished they'd included Genevieve. Oh well, I think I can cough up another 99 cents...
PS YouTube their performance on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert for 19 mins of bliss...

5.0 out of 5 stars Inventive, fun, suyper-catchy! October 16, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Started listening to Lucius, via their NPR Tiny Desk Concert, and have seen them twice in NY. Great live performers. This CD is great in a different way - their catchy songs, unique sound and quirky musicality make this a CD i will listen to regularly. The lead singers' voices are beautiful - although even more powerful live.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album December 30, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
After listening to (and loving) Haim's album recently, my friend turned me onto this other "girl" group. While not the same band or style by any means, anyone who enjoys Haim will likely enjoy Lucius too. You may read other reviews of this album describing it as girl-group type music, but I think it stands above that description. It's a solid album throughout.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious slice of power pop pie December 29, 2013
Format:Audio CD
How often you do find albums worth listening to from start to finish? It's been a decade since I heard something that stirred the soul and moved my feet - thank the pop gods for Lucius. "Wildewoman" is a piece of pop heaven with no weak track in mind (no fillers please). This is one album I couldn't wait to restart just so I could bask in the glow of its gorgeousness and gorgeousity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely one of my top albums of 2013 December 28, 2013

The music and vocals are infectious. First heard them on KEXP and couldn't get "Turn It Around" out of my head (in a good way).

Love this group! I must admit I like their live performances better, but their sound on this album quickly grew on me. Hope to hear much more from these guys in the future.

IMHO the best band out touring right now. These folks are really great. Upbeat pop with some lyrical muscle. Percussive and harmonic in the most delicious way imaginable!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best at SXSW 2014
I heard Lucious for the first time at SXSW 2014. They were my favorite for the weekend. Neo-retro. I'm telling everyone I know.
