Native Perennials for the New England Gardener,
This review is from: WILDFLOWER PERENNIALS FOR YOUR GARDEN: A Detailed Guide to Years of Bloom from America's Native Heritage. (Hardcover)
There are no color plates in the book but the amount of information and detail sketches makes up for it. An authoritative book for the gardener that wants to "go natural"

Review taken from dust jacket write-up...,
This review is from: WILDFLOWER PERENNIALS FOR YOUR GARDEN: A Detailed Guide to Years of Bloom from America's Native Heritage. (Hardcover)
This 1976 book contains tips on soil improvement, pests and diseases and laying out garden plots. It gives specifics on how and where to obtain plants while still maintaining the natural environment and unspoiled conditions. "Readers will especially appreciate the detailed information on how to propagate and transplant wildflowers successfully. Techniques for growing plants from seed are presented, and each of the different means of reproducing plants by vegetative propagation is summarized and illustrated."The second part of the book is a dictionary of 100 native American perennials divided into plants for sunny and shady places as well as wet and dry spots. (Amidst this discussion, it ends up with information on over 500 species.) "Opposite each plant discussion is a full-page [black and white] illustration of the featured plant..." Also contained in the book is an appendix with a list of wildflower dealers in the States and Canada. |
