Book Description

Homicide detective Allison Goodnight has a big problem. A rogue werewolf killed the victim in her latest case. She knows the signs; she is a werewolf, too. Her whole family is. It is urgent that she close this case without revealing the killer’s nature before humans’ racial memory of her kind awakens. But her new partner Zane Kerr is watching her with unnerving intensity. He is disturbed by her secretive behavior on this case. And when the description of a woman seen with the victim matches a number of Allison’s relatives, he has to wonder if she is trying to protect, not catch, the killer. He is determined to find out. Which could be fatal for him. If he learns too much, Allison may have to turn killer herself to protect her people.

From the Author

Thanks for visiting this page to check out Wilding Nights. I don't bother writing stories unless they excite me, but this one was especially fun to write...working out the details of werewolf existence...solving in my own way the question of changes of body mass and what happens to the clothes. I could say I had a howling good time with it...but that's a terrible pun so I won't say it. However, working on Wilding, I did hate quitting to go to bed and could hardly wait to resume work on it in the morning. The book grew out of a comment made by Stephen Pagel here at Meisha Merlin...that he would like to see a book with werewolves given a treatment similar to what I did with vampires. I knew I could do that. I already had a short story with a werewolf cop...never published because I couldn't come up with an ending that felt right. I always felt good about the opening, though, which flung us straight into the middle of the story. The book opens with exactly! the same paragraph...only this time the story plays out to an ending I like. And I LOVE the cover!

5.0 out of 5 stars A werewolf fan's delight February 1, 2003
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I enjoyed the book a lot. Nice solid depiction of a police detective working a case, with very well developed werewolf culture included. Recommend this for people who enjoy a strong, smart female lead, and werewolf fans.

Not as erotic or sensual as Anita Blake books, but solid plotting and a real feel of suspense and danger in the book.

On the plus side there are two leads, the main lead is the female police detective who is secretly a werewolf, and her new partner, a very human male who's also a very good detective. Maybe too good as he gets close to his partner's dangerous secret.

This is NOT a romance. It's mainly a mystery with some good werewolf culture woven in. A good read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Could have been better if .... January 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am a lover of almost everthing paranormal. I also love crime stories with very little romance - Criminal Intent with werewolves and/or vampires is my thing.

Unfortunately, this book did not live up to the hype from several other reviewers. It was boring and had several errors in it within the first few pages (from 1% to 4%) on my kindle. One of the big errors was as they were laying out the contents of the deceased's pockets she stated there was a cell phone with keys and wallet yet a few moments later she stated there was no cell phone and thought he must of lost it running from his murderer.

Several time I had to go back to reread what was written to figure out what or who the author was talking about or who was doing the internal dialogue. The story and the dialogue feels choppy and rather disorganized not to mention it was dry. The main character seems to be lacking and comes across one dimensional.

I have not finished reading it yet and I will try but reading a book should be a pleasure cruise, getting to know your characters and what brings them together. This was a lone camping trip into a dark maze. Granted, it is an interesting concept but the misuse of words (though the spelling was correct) and the general confusion of who did what to whom and where is makes me want to delete it now.

1/16/12 Nope. Didn't get any better. I gave it to a younger friend to read and she only read half of it and asked me if she was being punished for something.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of action and werewolves May 6, 2003
By Moe811

Allison Goodnight is a detective in a coastal Texas town, she is also a werewolf, as are many members of the department. She is breaking in a new partner (human) when a werewolf serial killer strikes the town. It is imperative that humans are not made aware of the existence of werewolves, and that they capture this rogue before she kills again.

This was an entertaining and action packed novel. I found myself reading far longer than I wanted to find out who the killer was and why. The characters were a little flat and did not really hold my interest, fortunately, the murder mystery was engrossing.

More About the Author

I have been storytelling almost as long as I can remember, starting somewhere around the age of four or five with making up my own bedtime stories. In grade school the stories became episodes of my favorite radio and TV shows, predating the fan-written Star Trek literature by decades. Then, in keeping with wisdom that says the golden age of science fiction is about age eleven, at that age I discovered science fiction and fantasy. That first SF novel hooked me on SF and fantasy. But along with the pleasure of devouring this marvelous literature came fear. I lived in a small town with a small library and I saw I would soon read the section dry. So to keep from running out of science fiction, I began writing my own. And because the mystery section adjoined the SF/Fantasy section, leading me to discover mysteries about the same time as SF, my stories tended to combine SF with mystery. They still do, resulting in supernatural mysteries and urban fantasy...with a noticeable fondness for cops. Vampire cop Garreth Mikaelian hunts killers in Blood Hunt and Bloodlinks (published together by Meisha Merlin as BloodWalk) and in Blood Games. I have future cops Janna Brill and Mama Maxwell in three novels (The Doppelganger Gambit, Dragon's Teeth, and Spider Play)space-going cops in Deadly Silents, werewolf cops in my novel Wilding Nights, and a ghost cop in Killer Karma.

Beginning Blood Games, Wilding Nights, Killer Karma and my African fantasy novel The Leopard's Daughter, my books are now being re-published in e-book editions.
