I was, and still am, a Steve Irwin fan. It was crushing to learn of his death, by a fish, of all things! And I temporarily divorced myself from The Crocodile Hunter following this accident. As you probably know, the human vultures came out after his death. "He deserved it," some wrote. "That's what you get for harassing animals," others said.

This book is a wonderful read , really hitting the target. I like the easy way it lays out Steve Irwin's life from his early years to his sad end and poignant farewell.

The simplicity of Richard Shears' writing style particularly strikes a chord with many of us in developing nations where more than 75% of the population can barely read. The author has allowed us to share, with the rest of the world, in the life of a man who wanted his message about caring for the earth and all its creatures to reach us all. And it has --through Wildlife Warrior. Bravo!

May we all have the courage to stand up and be counted even in the face of criticism and derision as Steve Irwin did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Accurate view of Steve Irwin's life, December 16, 2006

I found the book an interesting wrap up of a life cut short in it's prime; I wasn't an Irwin fan but I read the book to find out why people so admired him as I am a lover of wildlife. Mr. Shears wrote in a journalistic manner, clear & concise and without pretension and I got a fair idea of what sort of a man Steve Irwin was without mythology. A good read. Michael Downey

This is a very well done book about such a remarkable man. It was purchased for my daughter. His death broke her heart. He was/is her hero. She decided at age 4 she wanted to be a zoologist after watching croc hunter. Reading about her hero has brought her joy. It is a great tribute to a remarkable human being. CROCS RULE!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars My first foray into the post-Steve Irwin literature..., May 15, 2010

This review is from: Wildlife Warrior: Steve Irwin: 1962 - 2006, a Man Who Changed the World (Paperback)

I emphatically disagree.

Steve Irwin was personally responsible for reaching thousands of people, perhaps millions, and igniting at least a spark of environmental stewardship. His family was responsible for preserving thousands of acres of habitat.

He brought joy to the world, as an ambassador for Nature. And I miss this effort.

In Wildlife Warrior: Steve Irwin: 1962 - 2006, a Man Who Changed the World, journalist Richard Shears wrote a fairly shallow, but still interesting, review of Irwin's life and death. There are a limited number of photographs of his life, and interviews with people present when Irwin died (I don't know if these were first-person interviews). He discusses Irwin's loves, and controversies in his life.

You will get a taste of Steve Irwin.

This is my first foray into the post-Steve Irwin literature, and I suspect there will be more books coming (there are a number at the moment, including one written by Terri Irwin). I hope to read more of these over the years, to get a better understanding of Steve Irwin's lasting contributions to wildlife conservation.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Honest and Fair Read, August 23, 2007

This review is from: Wildlife Warrior: Steve Irwin: 1962 - 2006, a Man Who Changed the World (Paperback)
While I agree the book was written in a bit of a disorganized style, and some wording in sentences made me have to re read some to get the sense of it, I am Thoroughly enjoying the read, I'm almost done with it. Its Fair, esp. the part about Steve supposedly putting his baby in danger nearly feeding him to the crocs as so many put it.. I am a huge fan of Steve and Terri, and I KNOW how much he loves his family, I NEVER was worried or shocked, as I understand him and his thinking.. he'd NEVER take a chance of any kind with his children, family, friends, co-workers. Richard wrote about all of it fairly and honestly, which I appreciated, and felt he is also a fan too with a fondness for the man. Richard is an award winning writer, so I did enjoy the book. Some nice pictures in it.
First time using Product link, its for the new book by Terri Irwin herself, titled "Steve and Me" - not sure I did it right.Steve and Me: Life with the Crocodile Hunter

5.0 out of 5 stars Could have been a little better, but hey, July 3, 2007
This review is from: Wildlife Warrior: Steve Irwin: 1962 - 2006, a Man Who Changed the World (Paperback)
This book is mainly clips based on articles/personal opinions from many 3rd hand sources, and did seem maybe just a little disorganized, but not bad at all. I would still recommend this book highly for the mere fact that you get a good look into the life and chronicles of Steve Irwin. Sadly the book also discusses what his future plans were, and how tragic it was he died before he could finish them. His death was a terrible loss to the world.

This review is from: Wildlife Warrior: Steve Irwin: 1962 - 2006, a Man Who Changed the World (Paperback)
The book is awesome but the condition it arrived looks like a metal clamp was put on the book at one point. The pages are impressed with the clamp and slightly torn. It is visible through all pages and covers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, though a little too easy reading, July 29, 2008

A fair description of Steve Irwin's life, without going into too much detail wrt family etc.
Probably shows up Steve as a fairly one-dimensional character, however, at least one that had courage and strong convictions.
A good book you could knock over quite easily on a rainy day.
