5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, November 7, 2010
This review is from: Wildwood (Audio CD)
I saw these guys playing at Durham last night and they were great. The place was packed and the music was awesome. This band makes music with a lot of character, their music just captivates you. I won't be surprised when they make it big, in my humble opinion these guys are already an institution on Bluegrass and great Americana music. Keep it up guys you are doing great.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT CD and a Must Own, July 27, 2010
This review is from: Wildwood (Audio CD)
I've followed this band for a few years now since they are from the Raleigh area and their music has continued to mature and evolve. This latest release is an outstanding collection of original work, skillfully performed and perhaps as important, they seem to have a ball playing their music live. I predict Chatham County Line will have an amazing, breakout year, driven by this excellent release. A must-own for anyone who appreciates original bluegrass and acoustic music!

Chatham County Line had a great sound, and there are several tracks on here that will keep you coming back. My top there are the title track "Wildwood", "Out of the Running", and "Ghost of Woody Guthrie". The writing is suburb and piercing. Highly recommend for those interested in folk/newgrass style music, or who like some banjo. Beware, you will likely get hooked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wildwood by Chatham County Lline, July 15, 2010
This review is from: Wildwood (Audio CD)
4 boys from Raleigh NC have created music that is embraced at home, across the US. and many European countries. Their appeal ranges from bluegrass to the outer limits of Americana. With Wildwood I think they show they are no longer a great bluegrass band but a great band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Chatham County Line Album yet!, June 23, 2011
This review is from: Wildwood (Audio CD)
There are americana/folk/alt-country artists that just toss out album after album and often fail to match prior success or maintain a sound long enough to capture and retain a following. I think CCL is on a fantastic path here. I have to admit that I have only been a fan since they released Speed of the Whipporwill. Ever then, I have liked them, was 'ho-hum' on some songs, but really loved others and sometimes found myself skipping songs on cds to get to others. I found albums to be good, but sometimes stylistically distracting. This album, in my opinion, is fantastic, consistent and shows maturity. I think the songs are brilliantly arranged and the album overall has a fantastic feel.

I know that this group on many sites and even on their own characterize themselves as bluegrass, but I think that somewhat segments them almost unfairly. Despite traditional instrumentation, I feel that fans of many other acoustic-oriented alt-country bands could really, really appreciate the melodies, writing, and overall harmony of this group, ESPECIALLY this album. If you like the acoustic leaning groups with very palatable, believable and unique lead vocals and harmonies (ie: Jayhawks, Avette Bros, Trampled by Turtles, etc).. then this group and album should fall right in your lap.

Lovely harmonies and hooks that will have you tapping your feet/steering wheel, etc. This album, to me, after a second listen was like putting on my favorite pair of socks. Difficult to say specifically why they are your favorite, it just feels right.
