5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful paranormal July 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
In this story, we follow young Todd as he travels to his grandfather's village and meets new people, some his own age like Andrew and the lovely Marigold, some older like Shaun, and some really old, but all interesting and weird in Todd's opinion. Todd unravels his past bit by bit as he encounters friendship, love, greed, and hatred. The author's incredible writing talent and descriptions put us right into the setting of Wildwood and let us discover the magic of the forest through Todd's eyes. No one can weave suspense and paranormal the way H. Scott-Taylor does. Add to that action, emotion, and humor, and you have a highly enjoyable story I highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sucked into a wonderful book July 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I'd had a rough day and what I wanted desperately was to disappear into a really good book--and am glad I discovered Helen Scott Taylor has published a new book as this totally did the job. I devoured this book in one sitting. (Yes, I'm an adult who likes to read really good YA novels, because they are such good stories.) Wildwood is full of characters I liked and the story hooked me in and didn't let go until the last page. I felt like I was dropped into another world, the descriptions were so vivid. Highly recommended to pre-teens on up.

5.0 out of 5 stars A magical read August 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Helen Scott Taylor always draws me in with her vivid descriptions, settings and characters. I loved the mythology and world she has set her story in, and enjoyed watching Todd's reaction as he maneuvered his way through the plot twist. Excellent characters, action, voodoo, suspense -- a real page turner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Move over Hardy Boys! August 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm a big fan of Helen Scott Taylor's books, and this one did not disappoint. Growing up, I was a big fan of the Hardy Boys mystery series. Todd Hunter is a modern day sleuth with a whole village of secrets to uncover.

When his mother goes to France with her boyfriend, Todd chooses to stay with his father instead of tagging along where he's not wanted. His father lives in a rural English seaside village. Things seem to be going well when he discovers the body of a boy who is close to his age (15). The police rule the death an accident, but Todd is convinced the boy was murdered. But who would want young Andrew dead? Was he killed by his mother's angry boyfriend? Did the hippy artist have something to do with Andrew's death? What about the witches living in a cottage on the edge of the cliff near where Andrew's body was found? Are they involved? And what is going on in the creepy forest above the village?

I kept turning the pages, anxious to find out what happened in this exciting whodunnit. I recommend Wildwood to anyone who loves childhood adventure mysteries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Storytelling July 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
A teenage mystery with shapeshifters and ancient religions. This was a fun read, trying to figure out what was going on while the teenage hero struggled to stay alive. Ms. Taylor does an excellent job of weaving in the different elements of the story, giving her readers just enough information to make close guesses, but not knowing for sure what is happening until the teenage hero figures it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gutsy Teenage Hero July 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Ms. Scott-Taylor certainly has her finger on the pulse of young adult readers. Anyone who enjoys a fast-paced suspenseful read with wonderful paranormal elements (based on the famous Green Man deity) will love Wildwood.
The author has even thrown in voodoo for good measure! Murder and kidnapping, ghosts and mayhem, and a gutsy teenage hero, all amid standing stones and spellbinding forests. Loved it! (You'll fall in love with the dog too!)

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good! October 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Although I am far over the age limit for a YA book, I was intrigued with this book. I like the mystery that is built into the boy's visit with his grandfather. It also has an interesting twist of "Who do you trust?" that is a good lesson for all young people to learn.
This young man used his imagination and his curiosity to fill his time without electronics during his visit, and a bit of history was included in the plot. The final ending of the book left the reader curious to find out what happens next. All-in-all, I felt this was a very good book, and I would recommend it for the intended audience.

5.0 out of 5 stars A mystery book for all ages August 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Wildwood by Helen Scott Taylor might have been written for Young Adults, but readers of all ages will find the characters compelling and the story hard to put down. Reminiscent of mysteries such as Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, a young Todd Hunter is determined to seek the truth about a local boys' death while he visits his grandfather for the summer. He is forced to use his intelligence and his strength to solve the crime. Todd is challenged at every turn in this exciting and unpredictable story. The paranormal elements give the book a modern feel and are woven in to the plot with the skill of a master storyteller.

If you haven't read Helen Scott Taylor before, you can't go wrong to start with this book, then work your way through all the others. You'll be glad you did.
