The Wiles Of Destiny [Mass Market Paperback]

Itzhak Kotkowski (Author)

Available from these sellers.

Book Description

October 1991
This is the true story of a 17 year old polish boy at the mercy of two totalitarian regimes, the people he meets and the path he takes in the storm of World War II. We follow him on his odyssey from Nazi-Occupied Poland to Soviet prison and work camps, feeling his confusion and fear and applauding his wits and tenacity.

It's a story of witness to a dark era of degradation and cruelty, man's inhumanity to man. A testimony of one man's indomitable spirit and will to live, it is ultimately uplifting and inspirational

Editorial Reviews

Review

"I must say that I found it so fascinating I could not put it down, indeed I finished it in a couple of nights" -- Rabbi David H. Lincoln-Park Avenue Synagogue-New York, September 1992

"These memoirs, so realistic and unvarnished, make for fascinating and compelling reading. They have to be documented and preserved to be a guide and warning to the future" -- Dr. Zbigniew Anthony Kruszewski-Professor of Political Science at the University of Texas at El Paso, May 1989

"Your memories are profoundly moving...I Hope many, many people will read them" -- Professor Elie Wiesel- Nobel Prize for peace, Boston University, MA, December 1992

From the Author

I started Writing these memoirs in 1944, well after I had already been exposed to a multitude of dangers. The main reason for writing was to leave a trace of myself in case I should be killed in action before the end of the war.

Starting on a little scrap of paper, and proceeding with great caution, I began to put my tales together. As I wrote, I was constantly aware of the possibility that my story could fall into the hands of the communist authority, which could have meant catastrophic consequences for me. Such was not the fate for me or my memoirs, however. I survived the war and rebuilt my life. I immigrated to Israel, Mexico and then the United States, ran my own business, and raised a family. It is primarily for my family that The Wiles of Destiny makes its appearance now, after a period of 44 years.
