Decent review book but could be better,
By Joe (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wiley CPA Exam Review 2006: Auditing and Attestation (Wiley CPA Examination Review: Auditing & Attestation) (Paperback)
This book was all I needed to pass the exam on my first try, even without any auditing coursework or experience. I'm not sure how it compares to Bisk, but the material is dense and it's hard to read more than a few pages at once. Accordingly, each of the "section reviews" is far too long and should be split up. There are 6 sections that take up 380 pages (much of this is for practice questions and answers), along with a 100+ page outline of professional standards (which there's no need to look at).
They try their best to highlight key concepts, but too many items are bolded, and the most important stuff doesn't really stand out. There are too many practice questions, and it's not worthwhile to do more than a few. The issue is that many of the practice questions aren't representative of real questions, and I'd recommend skipping their practice questions and instead focusing on the ones released by AICPA (they're included in this book). All in all, it did the trick. But after using Schweser for the CFA Exam, dealing with Wiley was a bit painful. The book feels like reading a never-ending table of contents, with short explanatory concepts. More graphics, tables, and charts could go a long way. |
