This review is from: Wilford Woodruff, Wondrous Worker, Prophet of God (Hardcover)
Gibbons prophet series is so pitifully inadequate in terms of biography and history. I always ask myself why I keep buying them. I guess it is the collector in me. The prices are always too high, and the content always so disappointing. Thankfully, for Wilford Woodruff there is Thomas Alexander's excellent biography. The older one by Cowley is also much more useful and enlightening than this extended Ensign article----------anything to make a buck I guess, selling prophet books in the Temple of Faith. I think that if you really just want to get to know President Woodruff in a non-academic way you are better off with the Teachings of President Woodruff from Church Distribution. Then, if you still want to know more, save your money and read Wikipedia. If you still want to learn more after that, read Cowley and Alexander's books. Also available are Wilford Woodruff's journals--Waiting On World's End, and a collection of scholarly articles in Wilford Woodruff: Banner of the Gospel. And of course there is the DVD, Mountain of the Lord's House--which even the historian in me has decided to like.
