Book Description

September 3, 1998
This is the most comprehensive work ever published on the life, work, and influences of Wilkie Collins. Interest in Collins has increased over recent years as his novels have gained popularity and his central role in 19th-century fiction, as a collaborator with writers such as Dickens and the father of the detective novel, has been recognized. The Guide is much more accessible than a biography: entries are arranged alphabetically and fully cross-referenced, and the text is complemented by over 200 illustrations, many of them never before published. Special attention is paid to bibliographical and publishing details.

This review is from: Wilkie Collins: An Illustrated Guide (Hardcover)
Wilkie Collins is one of my favorite authors. I feel his books are sadly neglected by the mystery community. He wrote so much in his short life, and his life was as dramatic as his books. This book in an easy to read biography of a complex writer. I have read at least 3 biography's of Mr. Collins, and this is one of the best. Wilkie Collins and Charles Dickens were very good friends, Collin's brother married one of Dickens daughters. Dickens is still read today, and I wish more people would discover the brilliant writing of Wilkie!
