5.0 out of 5 stars Maturing, May 7, 2010
This review is from: We Will All Evolve (Audio CD)
Our last night have returned with their best work to date. This album builds on the success of their 2008 debut "The Ghosts Among Us" with noticeable improvements from beginning to end. The band has stuck to their roots while refining their skill all around. We Will All Evolve is sure to garner new fans and impress current ones as well.

This album is fast, in your face, technical, melodic, and a wonderful addition to the post-hardcore genre. There is lots to offer here as far as vocals are concerned. The same soaring clean vocals are still present, and better than ever. The screaming on this album is also exceptional. The contrast between heavy/screaming and melodic/clean vocals is executed wonderfully throughout. Trever has obviously matured tremendously as a front man and truly demands your attention right from the start. Initially, I wasn't sure if I would enjoy Trevor's maturing vocals seeing as how they were so unique on TGAU due to his young age. However, I am now convinced that his new found voice will be nothing more than beneficial for the band.

Another instantly notable difference on this album is that it is much heavier than TGAU. The band utilizes breakdowns, bass drops (a personal favorite), and "half-step" chord structures among many other things. However, the balance is still near perfect between heavy parts and melodic parts. At any given moment, you'll be pummeled with a breakdown then ushered into a soothing melodic passage to change it up. Its this perfectly executed contrast that makes this album a true delight to the ears.

The musicianship displayed from this group, considering their age, is always impressive. Each member has raised the bar even higher this time. The drums/guitar and vocals are all individually catchy, creative, constantly moving, and keep you coming back for more.

The production on this album in phenomenally good. Andrew Wade (A Day To Remember, Versa Emerge, Burden Of A Day) absolutely nailed this CD from start to finish. His touch on this album doesn't go without notice. The sound is loud, in your face, crisp, and downright infectious. An additional round of applause should also be given to the renown mixing-master David Bendeth (UnderOATH, Paramore, etc) for his solid work on this album.

All in all, this is an exceptionally good release from Our Last Night which is sure to bypass sleeper-status and keep any and all listeners coming back time and time again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Our Last Night Has Evolved On This Album, May 30, 2010
This review is from: We Will All Evolve (Audio CD)
We Will All Evolve is a big improvement from their last album, The Ghosts Among Us. Our Last Night is a band to watch out for. I don't listen to this genre of music much, but Our Last Night caught my eye. I think their fan base will grow, because of this album. I recommend that you check this band out. This is one of my favorite albums of the year. My favorite songs on We Will All Evolve are: 1. Deceiver 2. The Devil Inside You 3. Distance Is Destroying Me 4. We Will All Evolve.

Amazing! What a great sophomore album, i liked it better than The Ghosts Among Us(which also is a very good). Trevor and Matt made an even better combination this time around with screaming vocals and singing on this CD. Definitely worth the price! Hope they keep up the good work.

Best tracks are.... all of them.

4.0 out of 5 stars good overall sophmore album but a few songs blow it ..., June 19, 2010
This review is from: We Will All Evolve (Audio CD)
Our last night's first cd "the ghosts among us" was a great effort from some kids and played consistently within the style, and the tracks flowed great, a few off timed melodic tracks that seemed forced and slow ... we will all evolve opens with elephants ... easily the heaviest and closest to their first ablum of any song on the record ... and it doesnt go downhill from there or anything but it certainly doesnt maintain the same pace and lyrical load ... while the air i breathe, mouth machine gun, and across the ocean are all slower at some points and dont sound as heavy ... they are great and mix the difference in tempo, beat and singing styles in an awesome underoath fashion that i think our last night is growing towards rather than some generic screamo guy interrupting things done by the rest of the band ... however deceiver reminds me of breaking benjamin in a bad way, the devil inside you never changes tempo and its a bad thing because the song just seems to never want to end or go heavier ... just 4 minutes of noise ... distance, carry, and future have not grown on me yet, or rather i havent found where they fit ... and the title track of the album - we will all evolve - still confuses me ...

the first 5 songs are great, the rest just dont fit ... but its still worth a listen, do like i do ... youtube the album, and if you like it ... go buy it ... if you dont ... pass it up ... no harm done
