Editorial Reviews

That previous Peggy March collection we carried mixed in a lot of German-language cuts (hey, whuddya expect, it was from Germany)! This one, though, has the goods as we say in America: her complete I Will Follow Him album (with the hit title cut and I Wish I Were a Princess ) plus six bonus tracks including Hello Heartache, Goodbye Love; The Impossible Happened , and (I'm Watching) Every Little Move You Make . 18 original RCA sides in all.

Customer Reviews

They are not in stereo and not the quality they should be for a CD reissue.

I highly recommend this for her fans; and people who want to listen to her performing quite a few songs will do well to choose this album, too.

We have always enjoyed the vinyl we of this, so we were glad to find the cd.

This CD basically contains the "I Will Follow Him" album with six "bonus" tracks among which are the remaining three top-100 singles achieved by March. With the bonus singles thrown in, it stretches to a "greatest hits" collection.

These album tracks are in stereo and good, not great, sound. The bonus tracks however, were apparently thrown on from whatever inferior source that may have been laying around the BMG vaults. They are not in stereo and not the quality they should be for a CD reissue.

This leads to the fact that these other tracks are available on Taragon's "Very Best of" compilation with its vastly superior sound. If you must have the entire "Follow" album, then this is your only choice. If you want a more comprehensive, far better-sounding compilation of March's RCA work, go for the Taragon piece.

I Will Follow Him is the title of a great CD by Little Peggy March. Peggy sang beautifully; her voice was as clear as a bell and she could convey all the emotions of every ballad she ever performed. Yes, this sound quality is not quite as good as the CD from Taragon; but it's not a big difference from the Taragon CD in terms of sound quality. The songs on this album display Peggy March's fine ability to sing very well.

The album starts out with one of Peggy's biggest hits, "I Will Follow Him." Peggy sings this flawlessly; and the beat is awesome! The drums, percussion and strings carry the bulk of the melody and the backup vocalists do a great job of singing sweetly in harmony, too. This sweet ballad has Peggy singing of how she will follow her one true love so she can always be with him.

"Dream World" again features Peggy's vocals squarely in the spotlight; and the strings work very well on this number. Peggy sings this perfectly and her vocal range is just right for this number. "I Wish I Were A Princess" is a masterpiece in Peggy March's capable hands; Peggy sings this with all her heart and soul. Peggy sings of her love and how she wants to spend forever with her man. The drums, percussion, strings and more make the melody very special and I predict that you will enjoy "I Wish I Were A Princess" very much.

Listen also for "I'll Never Forget Last Night." The men on backup do a good job; and the melody is very catchy. Peggy sings this song with panache and the drums are used to great advantage. Great! "Teasin'" is a cute little number that gets the royal treatment from Peggy as she sings this very well. The backup vocalists do well and the electric guitar on "Teasin'" really enhances the strength of this ballad.

Although Peggy March has been one of my favorite artist for several years, this CD hardly showcases her unique talents. It is a compilation of her first album. It is a good example of how producers Hugo Peretti and Luigi Creatore stifled this artist's tremendous ability (Probably one of the leading contributors of Peggy's inability to get firmly established in the USA). Despite this she manages to make several of these tunes quite enjoyable. If you would like to hear Peggy at her best try her 1968 album No Foolin' or listen to her German work. If you like oldies try Tarragon's The Very Best of Little Peggy March. It has some of Peggy's better English RCA recordings.

It's been half a century since Little Peggy March (born Margaret Battavio in Lansdale, Pennsylvania on March 7, 1948) first captivated audiences with her 15/16-year-old voice while registering 5 nationally-charting singles for RCA Victor, along with one well-received LP, thereby helping define what was to become known among devoted collectors as The Girl-Group Sound. And at this writing anyone searching for CD compilations of her music are faced with these four choices: "Boy Crazy! - 1993 26-track volume from Globe; "I Will Follow Him" - 1997 18-track volume from Collectables; "The Very Best Of Little Peggy March" - 1997 21-track volume from Taragon; and "I Will Follow Him" - 2011 30-track volume from Master Classics Records. Note that the listing of tracks for the latter does not show Hello Heartache, Goodbye Love which should be a track 5 with the remainder renumbered accordingly.

Only Collectables and Master Classics are available new at reasonable prices and unfortunately for that element of the buying public known as the completist hits collector not one of the four contains all 10 sides of her five charted singles. Of course each contains her smash debut hit I Will Follow Him, an adaption of the French song Chariot which made her, at age 15, the youngest female singer to have a # 1 Billboard Pop Hot 100 (a record she holds to this day) when it hit that peak in April-May 1963 (and stayed at # 1 for 4 weeks) on RCA Victor 8139. It also showed its wide appeal by reaching # 1 R&B, but it's not clear if she was also the youngest female to establish that mark as well. Only the Taragon volume omits the B-side, Wind-Up Doll.
