5.0 out of 5 stars Simple Answers to Tough Questions
This is an outstanding book to begin to gain an understanding of our loving God and God's will for human beings. Though they sound simple they are deeply reaching and complex answers to the painful experiences in our personal lives and the world's events. All answers are not found here. What is found here is a greater understanding of our God, a God of love rather...

3.0 out of 5 stars Simple answers to difficult questions
I was very disappointed in this book for several reasons. There is very little scriptural quotation to buttress Mr. Weatherhead's ideas. There seem to be several moments when he is attempting to understand God simply as he would wish God to be, not necessarily for any Biblical reasons. There were a few moments when I felt Mr. Weatherhead was actually reading scripture...

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple Answers to Tough Questions, March 3, 2000
By
This review is from: Will of God (Paperback)
This is an outstanding book to begin to gain an understanding of our loving God and God's will for human beings. Though they sound simple they are deeply reaching and complex answers to the painful experiences in our personal lives and the world's events. All answers are not found here. What is found here is a greater understanding of our God, a God of love rather than wrath and punishment. It offers us a look at a God of grace who resides with us at all times and works within the activities of our lives and the world to overcome the evils we do to ourselves and all of God's creations. I hand this book out to all with whom I am in ministry and will continue to do so free of charge to them. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical spiritual lessons stand the test of time., November 18, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Will of God (Paperback)
The Will of God was written in 1944, but remains relevant today for anyone interested in a God that is more than an oversimplified, superstitious way to avoid the pain associated with the hard realities of life. "These are days full of loss and pain, of suffering and sorrow. But they are not days of waste," the Reverend Leslie Weatherhead tells us.

This little book ---- only 85 pages --- offers a simple but powerful way to reconcile genuine faith with thoughtful intelligence. Since it is our response to the circumstances of life, rather than the circumstances themselves, that determine whether or not these are "days of waste," Reverend Weatherhead's paradigm for understanding the relationship between God's will and man's will is a valuable tool to help us improve the quality of that response in the face of everything from the catastrophic to the most mundane of circumstances.

The five chapters of The Will of God were originally five sermons written and delivered by Reverend Weatherhead, but it is not necessary to be a Christian to benefit from the wisdom here. In fact, there is nothing evangelical about the book. It is a lesson in practical spirituality, applicable to us all, and it will be as relevant in another sixty years as it is today.

I suggest buying several copies at once to save on shipping --- you will want to share this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars What is God's will is answered., December 10, 2003
This review is from: The Will of God (Paperback)
This book is an outstanding book for anyone who wants to gain an understanding on what God's will is. I have heard the term "the will of God" used when someone has suffered greatly. I thought how can it be God's will if someone has cancer? If it's God's will for someone to have cancer is that person going against God's will when they go through surgery and chemotherapy to fight the cancer? The answer is NO! This book distinguishes between the Intentional Will of God, the Circumstantial Will of God, and the Ultimate Will of God. This little book offers a simple but powerful way to reconcile genuine faith with thoughtful intelligence. I highly recommend this book for everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Will of God is excellent, June 20, 2001
By
This review is from: The Will of God (Paperback)
I found this book to be wonderful. In my own walk with God, I have been struggling with trying to determine the will of God. This book helped me find answers to the questions I've been asking, and has me asking different questions. It is based on a series of sermons by Leslie Weatherhead given in the 1950's. This is not a book you breeze through. The material is very deep and the language is a bit different than today's, but is very thought provoking. I would highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is genius, and has stood the test of time., October 12, 1998
This review is from: Will of God (Paperback)
The Will of God is a book that is not overwhelming for a person that is suffering a great loss in their life. I have been handing this book out to many people that have suffered the loss of a loved one, or have had bad things happen in their lives, and it explains, without questioning the omnipotence of God, how God helps us deal with loss and how to help someone else. I recommend that every Christian buy this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitive Explanation, February 12, 2002
By
This review is from: The Will of God (Paperback)
This is, by far, the most definitive explanation of God's will that I have ever come across. Perhaps that is why it is still so popular after almost 60 years on the market. There are several ecumenical, servant, Christian organizations that use this as one of their texts.
To underststand the will of God, try this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Correcting A Tragic Misconception, July 12, 2007

This review is from: The Will of God (Hardcover)
In his slim volume, The Will of God,that has reached millions of readers,
Dr. Weatherhead explains with blinding clarity just what is meant by the Will
of God, a subject that has been more twisted, bent and badly used from the
pulpit than nearly any other I can think of, and I am a pastor. Far too
many believing Christians think that God sits at a giant computer screen and
is responsible for every single last bad thing that happens to us from
hurricanes to hangnails to house fires, from poison ivy to rain on the
Sunday School picnic. You can read this book in under an hour, then be
set free for the rest of your life. If you know someone struggling with
something bad that has happened, give them this book . . . and rejoice!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the more readable books concerning the will of God, July 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Will of God (Paperback)
Often we hear the phrase "will of God" being applied inappropriately - such as when a friend is killed in an auto accident. Though this book was written during WW II, its theme is just as relevant today as then. Weatherhead distinguishes between the Intentional Will of God, the Circumstantial Will of God, and the Ultimate Will of God. The book is very readable and when I have reviewed it for groups of people, there is an immediate positive response to what they have heard.

Our grief workshop leader recommended this book to our group. While it can't answer all questions, it does offer an interesting perspective as to why God intervenes for good sometimes, but not others. For someone struggling for the "whys," this is a good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Absolute Must Have, May 8, 2006
This review is from: The Will of God (Paperback)
Of all the Christian books that I have read (and they are many), none have had the impact that came with reading this one particular book. It alone is the book that I have most given away to others to read. Weatherhead lays out in an very easy and non-heavy-handed way the question of What is God's Will?

It is actuall a collection of sermons in a series of sermons written and delivered by Weatherhead his church in England during World War II, a time when so many where asking that very question. Every person exploring this question and every Christian especially, should read this book.

It is a quick read that packs a wallop of a punch and hits you square between the eyes with it's simple logic and view. I simple cannot phathom anyone coming away from reading this book without being profoundly moved and possesing a better understanding of the relationship between God and mankind.
