Book Description

June 2003 10 and up5 and upTumbleweed
Loping through a book by Will James is the next best thing to being there.

Born in a covered wagon near Great Falls, Montana, and an orphan at the age of three, James was adopted by a French Canadian trapper and prospector. With no formal schooling or lessons in drawing, "he was a cowboy until a bucking horse threw him into writing," as Time magazine once said of him. He looked more like an Irish scholar than a cowpuncher, but he wrote as he talked...in a natural, easy-going way.

This book contains 15 memorable stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars The American Cowboy: True to life adventures, February 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Will James possesses the unique ability to weave into story form real life experiences of the American cowboy. He writes just like he's talking to the reader. His style and description of events makes you feel like you are in his boots and seeing things through his eyes. Each story is a fascinating and interesting insight into what it was really like in the "old west". Content is applicable to teens through adult.
