Book Description

September 6, 2011 4 - 8 years
This is the story of how the ultimate reluctant reader became a book lover.

The little boy in I Will Not Read This Book has a lot of excuses, because if there is one thing he doesn’t want to do, it’s read this book. He won’t read it even if you hang him upside down by one toe, over a cliff, with sharks down below. And you know what? You. Can’t. Make. Him. In this book illustrated with wit and whimsy by Joy Ang, Cece Meng delivers once again with a pitch-perfect reluctant reader who is finally convinced to read the book if—and only if—someone he loves will read it with him.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Oh, yes, you will read this book. You’ll be reeled in by the feisty, angular, frequently exciting digital illustrations, not to mention that confrontational title."—Booklist "Suggest[s] that sharing a book with a parent can be reassuring, and [the] cheerful use of imagination makes for an enjoyable read." —School Library Journal

I was born in Walnut Creek, California, the middle child of five kids. Don't believe everything you hear about the forgotten middle child. We have our methods for getting noticed. My siblings excelled at everything academic. I excelled at daydreaming. My parents were not amused.

My experiences volunteering at a homeless shelter while in college helped me understand the importance of communication and the role it plays in how we see and understand each other as a society. It also showed me how grownups are instrumental in giving kids hope, health, and inspiration to succeed.

My thoughts on writing? For me, it's about the music and the rhythms found in words. The joys of my childhood - music and poetry - wrapped up in the words of today. I love to honor the impulses of our spirited children. I tell my kids I have the best job in the world. I'm a professional daydreamer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great storytime read for Kindergarteners October 23, 2011

This book got a great response from some jaded Kindergarteners! I wish I could find more smart, funny, boldly-illustrated, cumulative tales like this for them. Thank you, Cece Meng and Joy Ang!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny Book February 16, 2012
A Kid's Review
Format:Hardcover
I loved this Funny book. There is a boy that is stubburn about reading. He was not a happy reader at all. My favorite part was when he shouts about not wanting to read. This story made me feel all giggly inside. The illustrations seemed perfect because they matched the words! The theme of the story is that it is good to read. I would recommend this book for kids in grades K-3. I think people that don't like to read would like this book.
