About the Author

Annie Laura Smith grew up in Central Florida, and has an abiding love of the seashore. Although she now lives in the Tennessee Valley, she returns to the beach as often as possible. She began writing for publication when her two children were quite young, and many of their activities can be found in her stories. Even one of their cats, Fluffy, was featured in a Haiku, and her friends' dog, Scruffy, appeared in a children's story. She can also now write under the byline of Granny Annie.

She taught Chemistry courses at the University of Florida, Mathematics and Learning Skills courses at the University of Texas at Dallas, and Writing for Publication, Vocabulary Development, and Efficient Reading courses in the Community Education Program in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. She recently retired from being a technical writer in the computer industry, and now writes full time for children. She is currently an instructor for the Institute of Children's Literature.

3.0 out of 5 stars WW II History Comes Alive in Fast Paced Novel, April 13, 2006

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Will Paris Burn? (Paperback)
Annie Laura Smith writes a compelling tale exploring the role of young people in the French Resistance during WW II. In August of 1944, as the allies approached Paris, Hitler ordered his generals to burn to it to the ground. A handful of Resistance fighters assist in a daring plan to save the City of Light. Fast passed and extremely accurate, the story sucks you in and holds you to the conclusion. Annie Laura Smith is a talented author who makes history come alive for young readers. I recommend her historical fiction for ages 11 and up or younger advanced readers.

Cheers!
