"Once a man holds public office he is absolutely no good for honest work.",
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Will Rogers, Performer (Paperback)
Before his untimely death in a 1935 Alaskan plane crash, Will Rogers was an entertainer and political commentator. His homespun cowboy act (he literarily did rope tricks to entertain his audience while engaging in a patter of conversation mixing jokes with acute observation) launched him into the public eye. He would go on to star in successful comedy movies and be something of an over the airwaves during the golden age of radio. Now in the pages of "Will Rogers, Performer", a profusely illustrated biography by Richard and Mary Maturi, a whole new generation can become acquainted with the Will Roger's legacy of wit and wisdom as his professional career as one of America's most popular and thoughtful entertainers. It may prove surprising how universal and enduring Roger's comments are more than seventy years later. "Once a man holds public office he is absolutely no good for honest work." Simply stated, "Will Rogers, Performer" is very highly recommended reading and the next best thing to visiting the Will Rogers Memorial Museum in Claremore, Oklahoma!
