From School Library Journal
Grade 3-6-Two celebrity biographies. Generally, the style of writing is akin to a teen-idol magazine article, with just the major facts being reported and then only those that are as flattering as a press agent's release. Will Smith profiles the career of one of the stars of Men in Black and Fresh Prince of Bel Air. A one-page biographical sketch (age, birth date, hobbies, family, etc.) is followed by several short chapters, providing some general information on Smith's days growing up in Philadelphia, how he broke into show business, his family, etc. Following the same format, Brandy introduces the young star of the TV series Moesha. There is not much depth in these books, but younger readers wanting information on their favorite stars might be interested. The writing style and tone just might appeal to older reluctant readers. The layout is colorful and attractive, and the many photos are inviting. Much of the information, however, can be found in standard reference works such as Current Biography (Wilson) or Biography Today (Omnigraphics).
