4.0 out of 5 stars Very good but not great, February 19, 2005

This review is from: Will of Steel (CD-ROM)
As a strategy fan I have been following this game for some time now. The screens looked very promising and the movies I seen were excelent.

I got the game this week and and have played it for about 5 hours. As I expected, the graphics are nice and detailed, even the game mechanics are quite good but there are several issues.

1. No way to customize your units - I hate when I'm given the units and that's that - I want to be able to choose and change them
2. Too few cut-sceenes. While the movies are excelent, there aren't enough iof them, the story is told through a combo of movies and texts
3. Music - seams like there are only 3 themes, all oriental
4. Voice control - while the voice commands work, they seam superflous sionce you can play the game completely without them

Since it's a US vs terrorists game, I will give it 4 out of 5 : )

4.0 out of 5 stars Very well done game!, March 13, 2005
This review is from: Will of Steel (CD-ROM)
I have played the game for about 5 hours now. When it first started I was really impressed with the quality and detail of graphics. Usualy strategy games have average graphics at best, this game has very detailed ingame objects.

The strategy part itself is also very good although I must say it's not anything completely new. The weapons you control and commands you can issue are standard which is fine with me, I guess that's just how new strategy games are. And the voice system is interesting, it lets you say your commands instead of typing or clicking, nice.

Graphics are very good, voice control works well, sound is realistic, gameplay is very good too. Units movement in groups is a little confuse, but in general this is very good game.

4.0 out of 5 stars haven't played the whole game yet, February 15, 2005
This review is from: Will of Steel (CD-ROM)
but I have played the demo and it was good. Although C&C Generals is definitely a notch better, for 29,99 it's worth it if for nothing else cause it's a patriotic game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good game!, March 10, 2005
This review is from: Will of Steel (CD-ROM)
I just got the game today even though I have been meaning to get it before. I like anti-terrorist game and this one delivers! It has beautiful graphics and fast-paced action. The only thing I don't like is music, kinda anoying but you can turn it off. I gave it 5 stars nevertheless. It's worth the money that's for sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game!, July 13, 2005

This review is from: Will of Steel (CD-ROM)
I got this game because I enjoy playing combat based rts games. If I see another resource gathering game where the main elements are wood, grain, and gold I am going to vomit. Will of Steel is much like Blitzkrieg and Sudden Strike but with 3d units.

This game is rough around the edges but it is fun. The latest patch (version 1.1) fixes some issues with the pathfinding. The game's 3d engine is demanding but it does provide much better visuals then the latest Command & Conquer games. The missions take place in Iraq and Afghanistan and offer realistic goals. You are given a limited amount of military units along with special strike capabilities (air support, artillery, etc.) so there is a great deal of strategy involved in how you can go about accomplishing each mission. Rushing with all of your units selected is a one way ticket to a perfect fiasco. If you are a strategy minded player who has a bit of patience, you will enjoy this game. The game offers some unique control via the mic and the voice recognition is actually pretty good. There is no multi player.

Will of Steel is a good deal for the money as it offers many hours of fun for a hand full of dollars. The game can be purchased for $9.99 - Google the title for a list of on-line vendors.
