Book Description

Silhouette Special Edition March 1, 1996
SOMETHING OLD

Amy Riordan hadn't seen her father in more than twenty years. So she was shocked to learn that he'd left her half of his most precious possession—the rustic country inn he had lovingly restored. Amy was mystified.

SOMETHING NEW

Suddenly Amy had a stepmother, sisters…and a disturbingly handsome family friend in Paul Hanley. All denim and leather and seductive blue eyes, Paul filled her heart with magic—and her head with questions.

SOMETHING…BRIDAL?

Now the rough-hewn prince had offered matrimony. Would Amy be a vision in white? Or was this fairy-tale fantasy simply too good to be true?

Review

Amy Riordan's father deserted her when she was just a small child. Her only memories of him are a few fleeting pictures of laughter. Now, twenty years later, she learns that she's inherited half interest in the country inn her father owned with his mistress. Amy's not sure she wants to confront her feelings about her father, but the woman he loved, Bernadette Ryan, refuses to discuss buying out Amy's portion of the inn unless she agrees to come to the inn to meet with her. Once in the mountains of Virginia, Amy has no choice but to face the painful realization that her father raised Bernadette's daughters as his own. And because she was too proud and stubborn to respond to him the one time he did reach out to her, her chance to ever know her father is gone forever. As if her own loss and confusion weren't enough to deal with, Amy has to defend herself against Bernadette's extremely protective nephew, ex-TV anchorman, Paul Hanley. Paul's certain that Amy, with her high society Washington background, plans to fleece his trusting aunt out of her rightful inheritance. But Paul's been through enough family upheaval of his own to sense Amy pain, and he soon realizes his first assessment was wrong. As the attraction between them grows, both Amy and Paul begin to doubt their own judgment. Both have been hurt in the past, and it's difficult to accept that they could make the right choices now. Especially when they have the power to disappoint each other so deeply.Realistic, touching tale of two wounded people learning to trust themseves... and each other! Judith Yates has quite a talent for penning complex and believable characters that jump right off the page! A delicately-drawn story about the price (and the worth) of love! It's a pleasure to watch the people in Ms. Yates? world learn to risk and grow!Annette Carney -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times

5.0 out of 5 stars "A Will And A Wedding" is a definite keeper!, August 30, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Will And A Wedding (Silhouette Special Edition) (Paperback)
Amy Riordan hasn't seen her father in over twenty years. Her parents divorced when she was young, and Amy went to live with her mother and step-father. Greg Riordan only made a few attempts to get back into Amy's life, and Amy pushed him away. But Greg left Amy half of his most prized possession - an inn. Amy finally makes herself go up to visit the inn in Tremont, and to settle her half ownership with Greg's significant other, Bernadette. While Amy is up there, she has to deal with her feelings of resentment toward her deceased father for leaving her while she is constantly faced with reminders of her father's life. Amy suddenly has a step-mother, two sisters, and an attraction to the family friend, Paul Hanley.

Amy has to learn how to trust Paul. She does, but then Amy runs away from Paul out of anger because she believes he tricked her into keeping her half of the inn's ownership, and she refuses to see him anymore. And it's Greg Riordan who brings Amy and Paul back together. Bernadette tells Paul that Amy loved Greg, and had pushed him away. She tells Paul not to make the same mistake that Greg made and never make contact with Amy again. Paul goes to Washington D.C. determined to set things straight.

"A Will And A Wedding" is a definite keeper! And what helped make this story so excellent was the characterization. Judith explored the characters so deeply, that I never had any questions about their motivations, their actions and reactions, whatever. I *loved* that! :) So many times, I've had to stop in the middle of a book to try to remember something about a certain character's past, or try to figure out why so-and-so is acting like a total dork.
