A recently updated and revised edition with a new intro by the author. (Over 2.2 million copies sold). As Kavanaugh says in his introduction: "Friendship is freedom, is flowing, and is rare... It trusts, understands, grows, explores... It does not exhaust or cling, expect or demand. It is and that is enough and it dreams a lot. Will YOU Be My Friend?" Thousands of couples have found the key to their relationship in this book. Individuals who where too frightened to love felt their hearts begin to open. It is probably Kavanaugh’s most popular book with students.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"James Kavanaugh is America's poet laureate.. I can think of no other living person who can put into words what we have all felt so deeply in our inner selves..." Wayne Dyer "Kavanaugh's words resonate with strength, wisdom, joy, and honesty. More than that, they ring true."

San Francisco Chronicle -- Publisher Comments

About the Author

James Kavanaugh was ordained and actively ministered for ten years as a Catholic Priest before attending Catholic University in Washington D.C. Working on his second doctoral degree, he wrote an article for the Saturday Evening Post, entitled, "I am a Priest, and I want to marry." The article questioned the practice of celibacy among priests. The year was 1967, the height of the sexual revolution. Although it was written under a pseudonym and even his closest friends and family were not aware of the author, it was received with such commotion and outrage, the secret would not be kept for long. Soon Simon and Schuster was calling for a book deal. Amid personal confusion, James took a leave of absence from the priesthood, packed his VW bug and headed for California to write books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Will You Be My Friend?, September 13, 2002

This was my first JK book.....since I have added almost every other one. He inspires my own writing in much the same way as Kahlil Gibran does. How can one NOT read his work and be changed within?
