No, these will not play the original Neo Geo's cartridges. I believe this will come preloaded with games internally and then has a SD slot for playing more games later.

The NEOGEO X has a 4.3 inch LCD screen, an expandable game card slot, stereo speakers and a headphone port.

It is also pre-loaded games with twenty Classic NEOGEO games:

3 Count Bout
League Bowling
Art of Fighting
Magician Lord
Alpha Mission 2
Metal Slug
Baseball Stars 2
Mutation Nation
Cyber Lip
Nam 1975
Fatal Fury
Puzzled
Fatal Fury Special
Real Bout - Fatal Fury Special
The King of Fighters '95
Samurai Showdown 2
King of the Monsters
Super Sidekicks
Last Resort
World Heroes Perfect

Ha that's so weird that they put a giant cartridge slot on it. Was that just so it looked like the old one? so strange. If it played the old carts I'd definitely buy one from a collectors standpoint.

I was wondering the same thing it appears the handheld part of the system fits into the slot, so I guess it's like the charging dock.

This. It for to use the joystick and play it on the tv.

It not up on amazon(yet?) but GS is selling the handheld with out the dock or controller for $130. Haven't seen any other way of buying the dock if you bought the handheld at release and later on want the dock.

The cart slot is actually fake. The top of the AES looking dock lifts up and the portable system goes inside.

You should check your local Craigslist. You may find someone selling the real Neo Geo arcade machine. If you get one, then you're set to play any Neo Geo cartridge. I have an actual Neo Geo arcade machine, but I might get the handheld just because Neo Geo has the balls to actually manufacture such a device in these times of higher powered gaming consoles. If you think about it, even though smart phones and laptops can emulate Neo Geo arcade games, only this NEO GEO X portable is truly equipped and specialized to provide the best portable NEO GEO gaming experience. It's all-in-one. No special settings or multiple menus to navigate. Just take it out of your pocket, power on, select a game and start playing some arcade titles.

The info sheet says 20 games (plus 1 extra for pre-orders), then hints at extra memory available for more games. How much memory? What to do once you've filled the memory? IDK. By the way, the appearant "cartradge slot" on top is NOT a cart slot at all, it's just for looks, as the handheld hardware fills the room inside. THIS WILL NOT PLAY NEO-GEO CARTS, CDs, NOR ANY NEW DATA. Pre-loads and internet DLs only.

True that, with a touch of patience you could find a 1-slot NEOGEO MVS cab for $150-$200 - You might get lucky and find a 2-slot. Market has softened on MVS carts as well - with only the super rare carts being a little absurd.

Only partially correct. True it will not play Neo Geo carts or CDs, but it will allow additional games to be played that are not pre-loaded. There is a card slot on the portable - those of us who ordered the Limited Edition are also receiving Ninja Masters on a game card. Inserting the game card into the portable, and then placing the portable into the docking station will allow us to play game card games on the television as well.

They are saying that they will release additional game cards, but no details yet on any other than Ninja Masters.

Also, you will not be able to download games to the device. They are either the preloaded games, or the game cards (at least until the system is hacked).

So will the game cards offer an equivalent experience as playing the original cartridges or will it be more like an emulator type of thing? Because the only way this would be worth buying in my opinion is if it were the exact experience of playing original Neo Geo with the cartridges.
