5.0 out of 5 stars Grinds away the competition.
I got one of these as a gift 15 years ago. It has worked flawlessly. I bought another brand and it was so bad by comparison that I returned it and sought out the Wm. Bounds brand and bought five more. I use them for black pepper, white pepper, green pepper, red pepper flakes, caraway seeds, and fennel seeds. They all use the same unique ceramic mechanism and work...

2.0 out of 5 stars Was great...until if fell apart upon refill
I liked the item for the first month, as the crank and adjustment worked great. I refilled it, however, and it jammed a few uses later and fell apart when I tried to repair the jam and all the little pieces are near impossible to put back together in order.
There's no manual or diagram to help and it's two weeks beyond the "return window."
Not recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grinds Beautifully: A William Bounds Acrylic Peppermill Review, December 26, 2011
I've used an inexpensive oak pepper mill with salt shaker for more years than I care to admit. As a chef, I prefer freshly ground pepper and decided to purchase the William Bounds acrylic peppermill mill from Williams Sonoma as a replacement and use with my salt keeper in the kitchen.

The William Bounds acrylic peppermill, made in the US, easily grinds the peppercorns by cranking the metal handle. The grind can be adjusted between fine, medium, and course by twisting a metal dial just below the crank to the desired setting. The ceramic grinder, designed to never rust or wear out, produces a consistent grind. A matching salt mill is available; however there isn't a companion salt shaker.

Refilling the peppermill requires the removal of a spherical nut. The crank then lifts off to reveal the storage cavity for filling. Return the crank into position and secure with the spherical nut when done. I've done this several times and have never had a problem with the peppermill coming apart.

The William Bounds peppermill uses a traditional shape with high quality contemporary materials to create a pleasing modern appearance. Plus I typically use a five peppercorn blend which adds to the visual appeal. If you're looking for an attractive peppermill with the quality to last, the William Bounds peppermill is definitely worthy of consideration.

PROS:
Traditional shape with contemporary materials
Grinder stays sharp
Simple to use

CONS:
No matching salt shaker, only a salt mill option

5.0 out of 5 stars So good I'm buying a set to give to someone else!, December 19, 2011

This is a great product! Received a salt and pepper set as a wedding gift 4 years ago and we have no complaints....they've actually received many compliments! The grinding action is sturdy, the hand feel is proportionally balanced and easy to operate. Great to cook with and looks great when dressing the table. The only note is that some residual grounds will be left behind in a tiny pile when picked up so we store ours in a flat little dish on the counter top. This 'leave behind' seems to be common with all grinders and really is not a problem at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great pepper mill, December 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I got this pepper mill to replace one that we had for a few years. We have one for pepper and one for sea salt. They work very well and look good too. The one we replaced was accidentally dropped and a piece chipped off. I was very happy to find the exact match on Amazon. The first ones were purchased at Williams Sonoma. They are very well made and I expect them to last a long time. They are also very easy to fill.
