Will not work in humidity,

Unlike most salt pigs, this product is glazed on the interior. This does not keep the coarse salt dry and if you live in any humidity at all, your salt will clump. Buy an unglazed interior style.

Glazed on the inside,

So most people probably realize this from the description "Glazed", but I did not realize this item is glazed on both the exterior and interior. I had read that an unglazed interior is better for keeping salt dry. However, when I got it and realized my mistake, I just figured I'd use it anyway. So far, no problems with salt getting wet or sticking together (I use coarse kosher salt). And this one was a lot cheaper than the unglazed models. I am happy with my purchase.

If you are into cooking, this is great to have on the counter. It has a nice wide opening that makes it easy to grab a pinch of salt or a quick measured teaspoon. I keep wondering why I didn't get one years ago.The ceramic is nicely made, smooth, perfectly flat base and is a good weight. |
