We have been though a half a dozen pepper mills and none of them have worked well. The William Bounds is an excellent design that easily and thoroughly grinds the corns using a mill mechanism that is quite different than most. There is no metal on metal grinding and it doesn't jam up like many. It also has a clever mechanism for easily setting the "fineness" of the grind. It goes without saying that a handle is a must for a pepper mill. If I had anything negative to say, it would be that it is a bit small, though adequate (I think William Bounds has larger models). Look no farther for a mill that works!

These are very nice,high quality and pretty, but a little small for our family of seven. They grind the salt & pepper fine or course and very easily, too. We have had others, but these are the best, yet. I recomend these for any couple or small family.

I have owned a pair of these mills for many years and have never had any trouble with them. They are small enough to not get in the way and have enough capacity for preperation of many meals. They are also stylish enough for use at meal time.

I just received my new set of mills and already love them. They work better than the last several mills I have owned, and the adjustable crushing setting is very simple to use once you figure it out and gives very consistent results. As to the earlier "guessing game" review, although the mills appear very similar at first, a closer inspection reveals one of the mills has a white dot on the top of the mill that can be used to differentiate the salt from the pepper. The only suggestion I have for the manufacturer is that they include some sort of instruction for the coarseness setting. It took me a moment to figure that out. Overall, a very nice set of mills and a good value.

My husband is a chef. We have owned this for home use for a year now and couldn't be happier. Really holds up even after repeated droppings which killed our last set (Peugeot I believe) I came here because at thanksgiving family members expressed their interest so I thought I would pass along our overdue praise!

This pepper mill sets the standard. It has three setting which grind to the level indicated -- fine, medium, and, my favorite, coarse. It works. I am amazed when I visit other people's homes that they put up with such lousy pepper mills. This one is the best. Get it, if you love pepper. It's pricey but hey, a life of good pepper will be before you. The salt mill also works fine, but it doesn't have any fine, medium, or coarse settings. The ground salt does taste fresher and sharper than the pre-ground stuff.

I like the mills. OK. But the picture on Amazon and the description are deceptively misleading. These mills are all of 3" to 3 1/2" tall. That's right!!! $35 for mills about 3" tall. That, my friends, is very expensive.

I thought I was getting mills that would be about 6" or so top to bottom, but such is one of the problems of buying online with a poor description.

These get 5 stars for a small set, but 3 stars because of the very misleading listing by Amazon.

About 11 years ago, I purchased a singleton William Bounds Pepper Grinder. I had wanted a pepper grinder and was thrilled to find a small one (the one I currently own is only about 3 inches tall) and it seemed like a good deal.

Well, I was right! My pepper mill, also a walnut finish and the same mechanics as this one, has withstood the test of time for eleven years! It works GREAT and has been absolutely maintenance-free. I can't wait to get this set so that I have the salt mill too. I only wish I'd bought the salt mill when I bought my other pepper mill so that I could own two sets for entertaining!

William Bounds mills are FANTASTIC quality as far as I'm concerned. 11 years of daily cooking and table use from a die-hard pepper fan attest to that for me.

This is our fourth purchase of these items. We give them as gifts to friends. My husband told the recipients of our most recent purchase that he wouldn't cook for them ever again unless they had the proper pepper grinder in their kitchen! We love the three settings (fine, medium, coarse) although I must confess we love pepper so much that we rarely move the setting from coarse grind. The salt grinder grates sea salt beautifully. I cannot tell you how hard we use the grinders but they still look and work as if brand new.

These are great grinders. I have purchased grinders before that were not of sufficient quality, I was very happy to see that these are excellent quality.
