American choreographer William Forsythe, director of the Ballett Frankfurt, has created new terms and direction for classical ballet during the last twenty years. His influence on ballet aesthetics and his work have galvanized dancers and audiences around the world and secured him a commanding presence on the next generation of dancers. The impact of Forsythe's ideas can be compared to that of Nijinksy's choreography for Diaghilev, and his methods resonate with those of the great modern dance radicals Merce Cunningham and Trisha Brown.
Senta Driver was a Guggenheim Fellow for 1978 and sat on the board of directors and the executive committee of Dance/USA. She is now on the Board of the Dance Notation Bureau. Driver has publ
