This review is from: William G. Brownlow: Fighting Parson (Paperback)
William G. ("Parson")Brownlow is not among the most well-known of Civil War era characters, but he is certainly among the most interesting and controversial. He was a rural, Tennessee, Methodist, circuit-riding preacher who was best known as a newspaper editor-publisher and politician. Brownlow and Andrew Johnson were bitter enemies. He and Johnson were too much alike to be friends. This book is well worth reading.
