5.0 out of 5 stars A trip back to the founding of the south, November 22, 2011

This review is from: William Byrd's Histories of the Dividing Line Betwixt Virginia: and North Carolina (Paperback)
Burd's history of the dividing lines betwixt Va and NC is a good narrative of an expedition to map out the boundary between these two fine states. What you find in this work is the creation of the southern identity and the toil with which these men worked to create their new homes. It is a little bit hard to read because it is older english, but it is a very good view of what it took for these men to succeed in their endeavors. What struck me is how at the point this occurred they already needed to create the myht of the South to assist in washing away the stain of slavery. This is seen in much of the dialogue provided in the book. All in all, a very interesting book.
