This book/magazine/portfolio was one of my first introductions to William Klein and I'm thouroughly impressed. The book is in German, so it makes it difficult to read the captions and the text. It is basically a portfolio of Klein's work from 1954 until 1997 from all around the world. Klein's street photography style is unique and his photos are awesome, so it's almost not necessary to know what it's about. Klein mixes up his work with a variety of portraits, candid moments of street photography and backstage at fashion and body builder shows. He get's right next to many of his subjects without any of them the wiser. In his portraits he captures an essence of these people's exciting lives and shows something that many portrait photographers are missing. As the book progresses from 1954 until 1997 you have a great opportunity to see how Klein grew, changed and got even closer to his subjects without them noticing him. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves looking at street photography or enviromental portraiture. |
