3.0 out of 5 stars Double D Fun
The Double D Avenger is a uniquely entertaining DVD starring former stars of Russ Meyers films. This review is from: DOUBLE-D AVENGER (DVD)
This is the second DVD version of "The Double-D Avenger," from Elite Entertainment, which features Joe Bob Brigg's hilarious audio commentary, along with other new bonus features, including a "Making of" documentary, new images, trailers, and more.

The special "Making of" documentary is a total GAS, with stars like Kitten Natividad fouling up their lines, making complete arses out of themselves! Director William Winckler is also seen doing stuntwork, dressed in Kitten Natividad's superhero costume! It's a complete riot!

The movie is very, very campy, and famous drive-in movie critic Joe Bob Briggs makes it even campier!!! A fun movie guarenteed to give audiences big laughs. . . . something everyone needs right now! It's as close to "Mystery Science Theater" as you can get nowdays!

Probably the last time audiences will see their favorite Russ Meyer movie stars, all together, starring as leads in a film! A special treat for B-movie buffs!

A-plus, hilarious, crazy entertainment!! It's real low-budget, B-movie fun! As Joe Bob Briggs says, "check it out!"

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth a look..., May 15, 2002
If you're a fan of Russ Meyer's films, you'll love this movie! The Double D Avenger is an over-the-top flick that really captures the sci-fi silliness and bawdy humor of Meyer's classic work from the 1960s and early 70s. It's especially entertaining to see old-time stars like Kitten Natividad, Haji, and Raven De La Croix "strut their considerable 'stuff"" again.

The girls find themselves battling bikini bar owner Al Purplewood and his gang of killer strippers. It's all in good fun -- though there is admittedly a ton of suggestive material, there's no nudity -- and director/writer/producer William Winckler does a good job emulating the not-so-subtle nuances of the Russ Meyer milieu. Definitely worth a lookLike the best of Meyer's works, you simply gotta see it to believe it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hear Raven de la Croix Snort Like A Pig, And Much, Much More, September 21, 2004
This review is from: William Winckler's THE DOUBLE-D AVENGER (DVD)
"The Double-D Avenger", starring Kitten Natividad and her enormous talents (in what is the only buxom, geriatric, superhero action-comedy that I am aware of) was the brainchild of Director William Winckler, who made it on a shoestring, and makes you wonder (sometimes out loud) "What was he thinking?" I have seen the original edition, but have recently purchased the version featuring commentary by Joe Bob Briggs, and I recommend that version much more than the originally released version. As a technique, I recommend watching the film with the Joe Bob commentary track off, then again with it on if you do decide to buy the Joe Bob version (and you should.) This doesn't take as long as it sounds because the movie only lasts 77 minutes.

The plot is wildly all over the place but essentially involves Kitten, playing a character named "Chastity" (pause for long laughter) becoming the "Double-D Avenger" after receiving superhuman strength subsequent to licking the "crockazilla fruit" (you won't believe this part) as part of a medical procedure. Chastity tries to avenge her boyfriend's death and in the process gets to battle three other washed up dancers Haji, Mimma Mariucci, and Sheri Dawn Thomas and their boss, "Al Purplewood." (Technically, I guess Sheri Dawn Thomas isn't washed up, as any of the other dancers are old enough to be her grandmother.)

Along the way we see action, comedy, silly sound and special effects, and the least talented dancing ever recorded on film. Without question my favorite part of the film is a little sequence that Joe Bob refers to as "Teutonic feminist techno-performance art scene, with chicken effects." This may be the unintentionally funniest scene in movie history. I must have gone back ten times to watch it over. I won't describe it (honestly, I can't) but trust me: it will be the highlight of your week. It actually made Diet Coke spew out of my nose.

Although the movie is one big adolescent joke, it is amazing in that there is essentially no nudity in it. The movie is much funnier with Joe Bob's commentary on, but your do owe it to yourself to watch it "straight" once before cheating with the commentary, if for no other reason than to clearly hear Raven de la Croix snort like a pig. I highly recommend this film for all lovers of grade-Z cinematic gruel, just make sure you buy the Joe Bob enabled version, which comes in a handy two pack also including the deliciously awful "Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter", and costs about the same as the original DVD of "The Double-D Avenger" by itself!

3.0 out of 5 stars Double D Fun, January 28, 2003

The Double D Avenger is a uniquely entertaining DVD starring former stars of Russ Meyers films. Kitten Natividad has always been my fav, and even though she's on the plus side of 50, Ms. Natividad still delivers the goods. This movie is for the kind of men (and women) who like good-humored fun, like the original "Batman" TV series. The girls are buxom and there's lots of double entendres and politically incorrect humor (like an early John Waters movie without the X-Rated stuff). The "Crockazilla Plant" scene is as funny as anything I've ever seen in a movie, and the character of "Orbs, Leader of the Ta Tas" should have her own film. Just lots of fun and a real guilty pleasure. Plus...Forrest J. Ackerman has a cameo!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Cult Film !!!, January 27, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: William Winckler's THE DOUBLE-D AVENGER (DVD)
I love cult films and this one is great ! The Double-D Avenger is the Russ Meyer filmstar reunion movie.

Like a lot of Russ Meyer fans, I preferred Meyers' early work- the black and white 60's films like 'Faster Pussycat Kill Kill'. I feel that the ones he made in the 70s became lousy, disjointed sleaze.

The Double-D Avenger has all the positive Russ Meyer movie elements, plus it's full of other cult movie elements, including good ol' Uncle Forry - Forrest J Ackerman. A++++

Product contained a lot of fully dressed UGLY women. Should be rated no higher than PG 13, and that for the one (out of focus)boob shot. Service was excellent, product was a waste of time and money.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Double D Avenger, December 1, 2001

First off, I didn't know what to expect when I started the video.
Anytime someone brings back a cult type movie genre and adapts it into the present, something gets inexplicably lost in the translation.
That's not the case here. This movie just starts off on the right track. It's part familiar territory but manages to take it over the top as well. Crockzilla scene anyone? That has to be seen, and just try and keep a straight face.
This movie takes some of the old and manages to blend it nicely into a modern production. Very well done.

This movie is pure corn in that it takes every opportunity to include every bad joke about women's ta-tas. But on a late evening after a hard day, it's enough. Yep, sometimes we need to view cheesy bad movie to appreciate the times that we can view high quality films. This movies does a great job. Big breasted women exploited for all they are worth with low budget laughs. Satisfied my craving for pure slock.

1.0 out of 5 stars BE WARNED, THIS IS NOT AN ADULT MOVIE, August 11, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: William Winckler's THE DOUBLE-D AVENGER (DVD)
I wont comment on the movie in terms of story-line or acting, we all know this wasn't an attempt by anyone to garner academy interests.
What should be pointed out this film could easily have a PG-rating and that's ONLY due to the obvious subject matter. There is NO nudity whatsoever in this video.
Its implied that Kitten wears a shelf bra throughout because we see her constantly hard"bits" poking thru her non-revealing tops. However, if you know Kitten, you know these MUST be fake stick-ons because her natural "bits" look nothing like these. Its obvious in some scenes she wears prosthetic breasts under her tops.
The irony here is that these are mostly erstwhile porn stars who work in a strip club- without any stripping!
There are only one two featured "actresses" who appear to be under the age of 35, the rest are OLD!! If you like to see 60-something women try to strut their stuff then this video is for you.
At least the producers had the good-taste to not show these washed up porno hags naked and for that alone I give it one star.

5.0 out of 5 stars Benny Hill Fans Rejoice !, January 27, 2003
By
British Comedy Fan (Santa Monica, CA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: William Winckler's THE DOUBLE-D AVENGER (DVD)
This B-movie is an absolute riot ! Very few flicks today can come close to the clever cheekiness of Benny Hill's comedy. This one definitely does ! The risque slapstick, saucy humour, visual gags, and innuendo are reminiscent of Benny Hill. And just like Benny Hill, this movie does not resort to offensive gratuitous nudity. Bravo to this film's creators !
