5.0 out of 5 stars Williams' Winning Style Captures Film Scores
If you like film music, this CD is for you; if you like guitar music, this CD is for you. John Williams brings his guitar virtuosity to bear masterfully on the scores of a number of popular films, which span a period of 60 years.

The use of the guitar gives a different sound to number of the selections, and shows that a good piece of music will shine, no matter...

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointing
While this album is pleasant enough, it is more orchestra music than classical guitar. John Williams is a great classical guitarist, but the guitar part on this album could have been played by any competent guitarist. If you want nice background music, this album is ok. If you want classical guitar music, look elsewhere.

How can anyone compare Bryan Adams' work to the elite performances of John Williams.... This man is quite a genius and second to none.... I, as a classical guitar player have found that this presentation has assisted me greatly... Let's see some more John.. Thanks a lot

I loved this cd. Very relaxing. i also liked the way theat he added in his own touch of clasical music into every song. Great cd. It is nice to see him change from the same old clasical pieces he is known for.

2.0 out of 5 stars The barest glimpse of John Williams, August 15, 2006
This review is from: John Williams Plays the Movies (Audio CD)
John Williams is one of the world's best guitarists, but you'd never know it by listening to this album. He basically plucks out the melody. I think I hear more complex playing in the background, but if that's what it is, it's mixed so as to be barely audible. On the other hand, it's very nice background music. I hope brisk sales support Williams' more serious efforts.

We enjoy this CD since it is both subtle (a classical treatment) and familiar (recognizable movie themes). I strongly recommend it. Everyone for whom I play it tries to take it home with them.

Heard one song on this CD on the radio so bought the whole thing. As usual all the cuts are not as great as the one tune but the CD is worthwhile anyway. It is more orchestral than guitar than I expected but this is not a bad thing. Certainly worth the price and delisvered promptly in perfect condition.

Stumbled on this while searching for the OTHER John Williams. I've collected HIS recordings since he was JOHNNY Williams in the fifties.
It was the happiest accident that I could wish for. I liked it so much I bought it again, for a friend. Then another friend. And another. Now I'm starting my SECOND John WILLIAMS collection.

1.0 out of 5 stars The music is not of the standard one would expect, April 6, 1999

Williams has embarassed himself with this half hearted effort. The music is cliched, soppy and well within the capabilities of the well-practiced primary school student. You don't play Bryan Adams on the classical guitar.
