Given all the negative comments about assisted hearing devices I was expecting to be disappointed but it worked much as advertised. It made me realize that my hearing is, in fact, diminished and now I feel better about taking the next step and getting a hearing aid. Was worth the cost. My only criticism is that given the state of today's electronics seems like it could have been made smaller.

Better than hearing aids at a fraction of the price,

My elderly mother, who is extremely hard of hearing, was recently hospitalized. Her Dr. recommended that while in the hospital she use a Pocket Talker, rather than take a chance on losing her very expensive digital hearing aids.
I was amazed how well this device worked. It easily outperformed her hearing aids, at a fraction of the price. It is also far more durable than the hearing aids, which were constantly in need of repair. She is out of the hospital, but continues to use the Pocket Talker, while her hearing aids sit in the case. She is happier and so is everyone around her! One additional note, I chose the Pro over the Ultra primarily because the tone control is internally adjustable. It can be tailored for her hearing loss and won't be inadvertently changed. The Pro also has an internal adjustment to limit maximum gain (volume), which should help limit feedback and be easier on her ears.

BETTER THAN THE PRICE INDICATES,

The Pockettalker was bought to replace a $1600 set of digital hearing aids with a three warranty that crapped out after the warranty expired. Aftermarket warranties are $250+ a year. The pockettalker is bulky and the earphones are cumbersome. But the sound quality is surprisingly good, the battery life is better than the digital aids, and it comes with a 5 year warranty- plus there are accessories available and the replacement cost is affordable. If appearance is not an issue, I would highly recommend these over digital hearing aids.
