Given all the negative comments about assisted hearing devices I was expecting to be disappointed but it worked much as advertised. It made me realize that my hearing is, in fact, diminished and now I feel better about taking the next step and getting a hearing aid. Was worth the cost. My only criticism is that given the state of today's electronics seems like it could have been made smaller.

Better than hearing aids at a fraction of the price,

My elderly mother, who is extremely hard of hearing, was recently hospitalized. Her Dr. recommended that while in the hospital she use a Pocket Talker, rather than take a chance on losing her very expensive digital hearing aids.
I was amazed how well this device worked. It easily outperformed her hearing aids, at a fraction of the price. It is also far more durable than the hearing aids, which were constantly in need of repair. She is out of the hospital, but continues to use the Pocket Talker, while her hearing aids sit in the case. She is happier and so is everyone around her! One additional note, I chose the Pro over the Ultra primarily because the tone control is internally adjustable. It can be tailored for her hearing loss and won't be inadvertently changed. The Pro also has an internal adjustment to limit maximum gain (volume), which should help limit feedback and be easier on her ears.

BETTER THAN THE PRICE INDICATES,

The Pockettalker was bought to replace a $1600 set of digital hearing aids with a three warranty that crapped out after the warranty expired. Aftermarket warranties are $250+ a year. The pockettalker is bulky and the earphones are cumbersome. But the sound quality is surprisingly good, the battery life is better than the digital aids, and it comes with a 5 year warranty- plus there are accessories available and the replacement cost is affordable. If appearance is not an issue, I would highly recommend these over digital hearing aids.

This was purchased as a gift for someone who had used one at a medical facility. It worked well enough at that location to make a purchase. Not an inexpensive T.V. ad toy, but a quality device. The unit that arrived had a headset that was too large and when customer service was contacted, a suitable replacement was sent at no charge.

I purchased this for my dad who could not tolerate his regular hearing aid. The only option was to talk very loudly and nearly yell so he could hear me. The PocketTalker Pro allowed me and my dad to communicate during this last year of his life. It allowed me and my wife to carry on normal conversations with him within his house. It also helped him to hear the TV and talk to doctors when he would bring it with him. It seems to work best if you are within 5-10 feet of the person. It may not be as good as some hearing aids, but my dad would not wear a normal hearing aid due to the background noise. Considering the price I think the PocketTalker Pro is an excellent option for people who cannot afford or tolerate a normal hearing aid.

If you have an elderly relative with severe hearing loss this product is worth the money. Caomparing it with hearing aids that cost thousands of dollars, I'd take this hands down. We used with my 91 yo mom in restaurant and other places that the hearing aids are useless because of the background noise. I also use it if I want to have a lenghtly one on one conversation with her. Great product!

Lets me watch TV late at night without disturbing sleeping family members. For that purpose, it works better than my $6,000 digital hearing aids.

I have tried about 6 or 7 other sound amplifiers and none of them were satisfactory, in fact some of them made my hearing worse. This amplifier is the best I have tried. I live by a railroad track at a RR crossing and no longer cringe when a whistle blows or from the clackety-clack of the wheels. The others I have used never lasted long, some would get sweat inside them and stop working until I dried them out. And all of them quit working altogether after a few months. With the Williams amplifier the built-in limiter keeps the noise at a low level, and the fidelity is so good that I can understand most words when talking to someone. I use mine even when working. The troubles I have is the earphones have a tendency to slide off When I bend over and the cord sometimes gets caught on something and pulls the earphones or the amplifier off. This problem has been lessened by flipping the cord behind my head. Even with the low pressure exerted by the earphones the cartilege in my ears gets sore. I need earphones that cover the whole ear and fit a little more snug. Another thing I really like is the batteries, it uses AA alkaline batteries that last a long time and are easy to find in most any store. My right ear is worse than my left ear so I wish there was a way to adjust the balance. I hope this review helps you decide whether you want to buy one, as for me I love it, even with the shortcomings I mentioned.
