WILLIE COLÓN'S FIRST & ONLY LIVE ALBUM, December 9, 2008
This review is from: Willie Colon: Asalto Navideno - Puerto Rico 1993 (DVD)
Asalto Navideño EN VIVO
"Asalto Navideño EN VIVO", recorded in 1993 at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, Puerto Rico is Willie Colón's ONLY live album to date. It is based on his Christmas albums Asalto I and II, the best selling record of this genre.
With el maestro Isidro Infante on keyboards and musical director, Rubén Rodríguez: Bass, Johnny Almendra: timbales, Eric Velez: Congas, Ray Colón: Bongo, Ozzie Melendez, Dan Reagan, Charlie Garcia: Trombone, Peter Braining: Sax.
Amen to this incredible cast of musicians, accompanied by three great cuatro players (a mandolin type 10 string guitar, The Puerto Rican national instrument): Yomo Toro, Edwin Colón Zayas y Pedrito Guzmán.
With the never disappointing appearance of Tito Allen singing "No Me Digan Que Es Muy Tarde" and a duet with Willie Colón, "La Murga".
No less satisfying the pleasant surprise of Angel "Cucco" Peña in the interpretation of "Idilio".
With the young singer Josean Torres on "Divino Maestro", accompanied not only by Colón and the band but Willie joins in on the trombone.
All this makes for a sweet typical Puerto Rican style Christmas party you'll want to enjoy over and over again.

Willie Colon - Asalto Navideño, September 2, 2011
This review is from: Willie Colon: Asalto Navideno - Puerto Rico 1993 (DVD)
Very good. An excellent collection of musicians. I'm not sure why he decided to sing songs not related to the Christmas season. He had other Christmas songs he could've played instead.

Great Concert, Great Music, February 17, 2011
This review is from: Willie Colon: Asalto Navideno - Puerto Rico 1993 (DVD)
Although a bit dated, this concert was really good. The songs were all excellent and cover Willie Colons musical tragectory. Touted as a Christmas DVD, it doesn't seem like one since it's strictly a concert and the music is mostly his hits. However, you will be truly pleased, as I was.
