when i heard willie pooch on tony's last cd, i think it was the last one. anyway, when i heard willie pooch sing the blues cut, EVERYDAY, with tony and his band backing him up, they got down. after hearing that cut, i went looking for cds by willie pooch and i couldn't find any here in columbus, ohio. willie and tony are from here in the columbus area, but when this cd came out, i couldn't find it either, so when i ordered it from amazon, it was money well spent. trust me, every cut is awsome. i hope the two of them pair up on many more projects.

I used to See Willie way back when he san with the De Marco Brothers in Columbus and Dayton and Willie is a force live. He is the real deal when it comes to singing the blues. He has also surrounded himself with a fantastic band that compliments him every step of the way. I am proud to have bought this and added it to my iPod.

When I stumbled upon a rocking blues number by WIllie Pooch on one of the subscription music sites, I just had to find out more about this amazing singer. Sadly, I discovered that he had passed away in May 2010. However, I also learned that he had a CD available on Amazon. So I sampled the songs on Willie's 'Funk 'n Blues' disc, and they all sounded terrific, so I purchased the album. Let me tell you, this is absolutely one of the best jazz and blues albums of all time. I have it in heavy rotation on my iPod. It is almost impossible to not start snapping your fingers, rocking your head, or discover that you fingers or feet are measuring out the beat while listening to this album. Willie is backed by the mighty Tony Monaco on the Hammond B-3. Together they have created a jazz/blues classic. God Bless Willie Pooch....and Tony Monaco too.

My interest in Jazz led me to the discovery of this excellent blues cd. Tony Monaco is a superb performer on the Hammond B3 organ and frequently his endeavors fall into the category of soul jazz. Soul jazz is a genre of jazz in which the musicians often employ the talents of an organist to carry the "groove" throughout their performance. The talents of Tony Monaco are conspicuously evident and the driving force for the eleven songs on this recording of 54 minutes of bonafide blues. Willie Pooch is a man who has lived the blues and his character is as authentic as the idiom of blues he professes to sing. Without doubt he is "blues to the bone". He penned the lyrics to "House Arrest Blues", "Cross My Heart Blues", "In My Lonely Room", and "Willie Rap" which testify to his understanding and feeling for the personal expression that has always been at the core of blues. Some blues artists come up short on the credibility aspect of their music; Willie Pooch is not one of them ... he is "the real deal" and this CD captures the essence of why authentic blues singers sing the blues. Together Tony Monaco and Willie Pooch have created a blues masterpiece ... and hopefully their collaboration to bring their convictions of how to play the blues will continue ... it's the blues, "pure and simple".

You'll want to turn up the volume when you listen to this cd - I have a hard time sitting still enough to work when I have it playing!!
