I'm new to the Pietasters, but being a fan of 2nd Gen Ska as well as some 3rd Gen Ska bands, I thought it was time to give them a listen. Songs like Out All Night. Bitter, Ocean, and Without You are immediately enjoyable with fat sound, catchy lyrics, and loads of energy. The strength of the better tracks leaves no doubt that this is a great band. 2.0 out of 5 stars A turn for the worse....
Don't get me wrong, I love the pietasters, but this album just sucks. There are too many covers on this cd including New Breed, Time Won't Let Me, and Quicksand. Not too mention several preleased songs appear including Crazy Monkey Woman and Without You (its 3rd appearance). However the Pietasters do manage to put out two excellent songs (Out All Night and Fat Sack)...

Bitter, Ocean, and Without You are immediately enjoyable with fat sound, catchy lyrics, and loads of energy. The strength of the better tracks leaves no doubt that this is a great band. The rough vocals that are the key to success for a few song, but it gets excessive on others and makes the album a little tiresome. Any flaws withstanding, the quality is there to send a new listener searching for older albums and looking out for new ones.

5.0 out of 5 stars mmmmmmm.........pietasters, March 21, 2001
This review is from: Willis (Audio CD)
I can't recommend this album more. It combines great ska with awesome soul and old school rock to create a deadly combination that will rock your senses. I loved "Oolooloo" as well. This isn't neccesarily a better album than "Oolooloo" (you should definately own both) but it stands out in my mind more. I listen to both equally. See them live if you can.

Anyone who tells you that this CD does not sound like the normal Pietasters music needs to be shot. It conveys the great energy that they put forth at all of their live shows. When I first bought this CD it was in my car CD player for 3 months straight. BUY IT NOW! You won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Pietasters, not Great, January 25, 2000
This review is from: Willis (Audio CD)
Don't get me wrong, this is a good CD, it's just a little differnt - save the songs Moment and Without You (which is just rerecorded here), and the Pietasters seem to be experimenting with a slightly differnt sound - it still has the soul roots in it, but Steve does a lot more yelling (but it has a very soul feel, as opposed to punk) - recording quality is top notch, as opposed to Oolooloo, but the songs aren't as well written. Best songs on the CD are Moment, Higher, Out All Night, Crazy Monkey Woman, Ocean, and Without You. Good CD overall though.

This one always tears the roof off. It also one of the best produced albums I own. It has a fat, loud sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album...just takes some time to grow on you, August 21, 2004
By
This review is from: Willis (Audio CD)
I have to admit, I do listen to more 3rd wave ska than the other types, and when I listened to this band's Motownish, 2tone stuff, I wasn't that interested. But I keep listening to this album, and it grew on me. Now I can't stop listening to it. This is a good break from the usually 90's ska-punk that is popular at this moment. I've seen many pietasters fans bash this album, but I find no problem with this album whatsoever. Like I said, give it some time, I promise this will grow on you and you will love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Release From an Innovative Band, June 12, 2003
By
This review is from: Willis (Audio CD)
The Pietasters are a vastly underrated Ska band. They are the most original and innovative ska around. Every song sounds completely different. Out All Night is a wonderful slower ska song. Fat Sack is a great ska-core song mixing hardcore with well-placed horns and even reggae. Crazy Monkey Women is the most interesting ska song ever made. Just listen to it and you will know what I mean. There is a lot of covers on this cd, the best one being Quicksand. Anyway, give this cd a try if you are a pietasters fan, a ska-core fan, or just looking for something different.

4.0 out of 5 stars great not-Ska, December 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Willis (Audio CD)
I bought this album a year ago when I was big into ska and was disappointed. Now, after a total change of taste (moving towards indie and electronica) I love to listen to this cd. It is great, but don't buy it if you are looking for ska.

3.0 out of 5 stars what happened, August 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Willis (Audio CD)
needless to say the pietasters are up there with hepcat, lets go bowling, and the scoflaws with the pinical of third wave ska. which is itself riddled with some really bad punk with an identity crisis (Orange county scene) but enough of that back to the point of this review... the pietasters live cds and the ground breaking Oolooolooo (or whatever its called) rock seriously they kick ass and show a lot of talent and style, but what the hell happened. i walk into my local cd store, ragin' records and was stoked out of my ska loving gord when i saw a new pietasters album!! i poped it in and hearded the voice of the marboro man, he sounded aweful and what seemed to be a cool ska-soul blend was slaughtered. the cd grew on me--a little but i miss "girl take it easy", "pleausre bribe", and "can i change my mind" so do yourself a favor, save your money and your faith in the pietasters musical talent and pick up stapped live... you'll enjoy it much more
