Review

Ross Briarcliff is sure that sniffing perfume all day has left Arianne believing in ghosts. But it's not the strong scents, or her imagination that is haunting Arianne Lacy, but her great, great aunt, Willow. Nearly a hundred years ago, tragic circumstances led to the death of Willow, and the belief that her lover, Peter Briarcliff had killed her. However, Willow is here to set the story straight, but she needs the help of Arianne and Peter's grandson, Ross. Due to the deception of her sister on the night she committed suicide, a note explaining her despair and Peter's family broach were never discovered. Peter had broken off his engagement to Willow when he discovered that a heart condition would cause her death if she were to bear children, and, knowing he could not marry her and never touch her, he thought it best for her if he broke it off. Willow, already pregnant, did not want to leave her family with an illegitimate child after her death, so she took her own life. Now, nearly a century later, Willow wants the record set straight and for the two families to stop their feuding. With the help of Arianne and Ross, who are also in love despite the family difficulties, the truth will finally come to light, and an old love can be put to rest while a new one will be allowed to blossom and grow.Ms. Herter provides a wonderful, heartwarming read that truly makes you believe in love everlasting! You'll keep this one on the shelf to read again and again! Willow and Peter will warm your heart while Arianne and Ross will set it racing! -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. 4.0 out of 5 stars A Haunted Ancestorial Hotel - and a Legendary Murder Mystery!, July 20, 2008
This review is from: Willow File (Silhouette Shadows) (Paperback)
Back of the book synopsis:

Corrosive rumors had tarnished his family name, linking the aristocratic Briarcliffs to scandal, madness...and murder. To entomb the legends once and for all, brooding Ross Briarcliff descended upon the elegant "haunted" beachfront hotel where his ancestor had allegedly plunged his fiancée into the deadly sea.

A slim obstacle barred Ross's way: Arianne Lacey, heir of the ghostly woman who'd died for love. Still, Arianne was so fragile that surely one ruthless kiss--or one salty wave--would sweep her away...

Yet Arianne's ethereal beauty, and the haunting scent of violets, stirred heated premonitions in Ross's icy heart. A violent passion to possess her gnawed at his soul. Was he succumbing to the Briarcliff legacy of maddening obsession...and murderous love?

3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat disappointing, September 10, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Willow File (Silhouette Shadows) (Paperback)
I looked high and low for this book and finally bought it from someone off the internet. I heard nothing but great stuff about this book and about Lori Herter. My sister had read her vampire series. Anyway, when I read The Willow File, I was a little disappointed. The plot was fabulous. A ghost is haunting Arianne and it turns out to be Willow, her great, great aunt. Willow died mysteriously many years ago, her lover accused of murder by throwing her into the sea. Her lover is Ross's grandfather and so brings us to Ross and Arianne and their extreme attraction to one another, though the families are life long rivals. So, the bad parts of this book, well, those are the characters. They are weak and pathetic and sickening. Ross is so hung up on his family name and so immature I just want to rip out my hair. And Arianne is weak and frail and she just does not seem very smart. If this plot wasn't so good, this book would get a mere star from me and that is being generous.
