5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Comprehensive B-24 Liberator Book Ever Written, July 9, 2007
This review is from: Willow Run (Hardcover)
The author Warren Benjamin Kidder was a personal friend of Henry and Edsel Ford. Ben was the last person to live on the Willow Run property before his house was torn down in order to make the Willow Run B-24 Liberator Bomber Factory, the largest factory ever built. This factory, designed by Charles E. Sorenson, produced one B-24 Liberator Bomber every 56 minutes. Plus, it sent complete, unassembled, airplane kits that were put together in the Tulsa Oklahoma B-24 Plant. This book takes you from the days before the plants construction all the way to the B-24 in action. It covers every aspect of the aircraft's production and shows how mass production of the Ford plant compares to the much slower production of the Consolidated Aircraft plant in San Diego.

Because of this book, Charles E. Sorenson, the plants designer and builder was nominated and accepted into the Automotive Hall of Fame, posthumously, where the award was accepted by Warren Benjamin Kidder himself. This book has also led to the production of the movie script of Willow Run which has the most innovative beginning, integrated with a beautiful love story, is filled with action from the start to the end, with the most unique ending that will bring tears to your eyes.

Warren Benjamin Kidder served in World War II in New Guinea fighting the Japanese, he later became the man to design the factory to build the C-119 Flying Boxcar Aircraft, just as Charles Sorensen built the B-24's, Ben was one of the head superintendents who built the Trans Alaskan Pipeline and he also wrote the book, Alaska, which too is a fantastic and very interesting book showing the life of the Eskimos in a remote village.

I cannot say enough for the book because if you want to know about the B-24 Liberator in the very most detail, from a man who was there from before the start and knew everyone that was involved in the bombers production, on a personal basis, this is the book to buy, there is none better. C. Jeff Dyrek, Avionics Technician, Pilot, Explorer, North Pole Expedition Leader and Aviation Researcher.
