About the Author
Christopher Newsholme has been studying the genus Salix since 1972. Having over the years acquired a collection of willows from many sources around the world, he now holds an Official National Collection of Willows in the United Kingdom.

The Ultimate Willow Guide,

Chris Newsholme really knows his stuff. This is the ultimate willow book including great information on propagation, planting and maintenance. This book has so many great species and varieties, I want to start collecting now. Although I don't produce my own compost to pot up my plants, I am sure a no-soil mix from the garden center will work.
This book has it all, from the background and history of willows, to the characteristics and the many different types of willows. I would have liked a hint as to the hardiness of the plants listed, but you can't have everything all in one great book.

This book reads like a textbook for a botanist seeking Ph.D.. There aren't more than a handful of pictures making it difficult to create a mental picture of the specific species - especially when the descriptions nearly match one another, barring a few highly technical terms. You don't need this book unless you are going to ask permission to splice two trademarked species into a new one, and it is otherwise not written descriptively or interestingly.
