Book Description

October 29, 2007 0314180133 978-0314180131 3
This third edition provides a comprehensive review of the law affecting intestate succession, wills, and trusts. This book introduces wills terminology to the lay audience and updates the law of trusts with references to the Uniform Trust Code and the Restatement of Trusts. This book uses problems arising from celebrity peccadilloes and deaths, such as those of Anna Nichole Smith and James Brown, to illustrate legal issues. Moreover, this book can be adopted to supplement a traditional wills and trust class or as the sole text for a seminar.

I liked this book when I was in law school. It "cut to the chase" and made the concepts of wills and trusts understandable. Although wills and trusts are separate courses in law school, I found the book has value for both courses by making difficult concepts understandable. Now that I am an instructor teaching wills and trusts for paralegals at a local college, I find the book valuable. I must admit that I made the mistake of lending it to a student. She won't give it back! She likes it better than the textbook we are using. That in and of itself is a strong statement of endorsement for this "Nutshell" title.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Nutshell November 23, 2009
Format:Paperback
One of the better written Nutshells. There is a combination of good examples, black letter law, case analysis and quizzes to test comprehension and learning. The authors do a good job of making a complex topic approachable and understandable, and identify a number of common pitfalls and likely exam topics. While I read the 2nd edition, a newer edition is available and would be recommended to the practitioner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great supplement to textbook October 13, 2009
Format:Paperback
Especially since this is a bar course I found the use of this nutshell helpful for Trusts & Estates.

The issues reviewed in detail include intestacy, rights of the spouse and children, the statute of wills, revoking and changing wills, beneficiaries, changes in items bequeathed, creation of trusts, elements of a trust, trustee powers and duties, and trust administration problems. In less detail the nutshell also goes over interpretation of the terms of a will and probate administration.

It was a good overview although the other nutshells "Introduction to Estate Planning" and "Estates and Future Interests" included other information that we went over in class but that this particular nutshell did not include.

Definitely recommend this supplement to your reading!
