5.0 out of 5 stars Review By a Philippine Nena Fan Who Understands German, May 5, 2005

This review is from: Willst Du Mit Mir Gehn (Audio CD)
This is Nena's latest cd album and it is a wonderful double-cd album, with the first( red ) cd being the studio album and the second( orange ) cd being the Majorca jam session of the Nena band album. All the material released in this newest of Nena's cd albums are new and the partnership between Nena and Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen, the original Nena band's keyboarder and "Mega-Mozart" music arranger, in this album certainly played a major role in placing it in the top 2 spot in the German Top 100 Longplay Charts of 2005 for the first three weeks( starting from its release on 21 March 2005 ), the top 3 spot one week after, the top 4 spot in the following week, and the top 7 position this week. The most popular song in this album at the moment is "Liebe ist", which steadily climbed in the German Airplay Single Charts of 2005 from the top 76 spot in the third week of the year to the top 60 spot in the fourth week, then to the top 29 spot in the fifth week, reaching the top 17 spot in the sixth week, jumping to the top 16 spot in the seventh week, leaping to the top 10 spot in the eighth week, slightly dropping to the top 12 spot in the ninth week, only to soar again to the top 6 spot in the tenth week and to peak at the top spot during the eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth weeks. After that, it dropped to the top 5 spot during the fourteenth and fifteenth weeks and is currently at the top 6 spot again. In the Top 100 Single Charts of 2005, the Nena cd single LIEBE IST started at the top of the charts in the first week of its release, then dropped to the top 2 spot one week later, only to climb again to the top 1 spot in the following week and then repeat its drop to the top 2 spot in the week after that. Then it dropped to the top 5 spot in the following week, only to climb again to the top 4 spot during the two weeks following that. After that, it dropped again to the top 6 spot and currently is at the top 10 spot. By the way, the song "Liebe ist"( Love Is ) is also the theme song of the relatively new German telenovela LIEBE IN BERLIN. As for the other songs in the red cd, the slow, mellow songs are:

1. Und jetzt steh ich hier und warte( And Now I Stand Here and Wait )
2. Ohne Liebe bin ich nichts--Berlin Version( Without Love I Am Nothing--Berlin Version )
3. Wir fliegen( We Fly )
4. Neues Land( New Country/New Land )
5. Der Anfang( The Beginning )

The fast songs are:

1. Willst du mit mir gehn( Do You Want to Go With Me )
2. Lass mich( Let Me )
3. Ich komm' mit dir( I Come With You )
4. Immer weiter( Always Further/Continues )
5. Vitamine( Vitamins )

I really enjoy the red cd a lot and invite other Nena and non-Nena fans to share in my enjoyment by purchasing this cd album, for you certainly will not regret it.

The second cd album is naturally the result of a jam session, rather than a proper studio album and it has to be appreciated as such, mainly for the insight it provides, particularly through its songs lyrics, into the minds of Nena and her band members. Here are the English-language translations of the song titles of the orange cd:

1. Ja, kann man denn da überhaupt was machen/Ich will was Neues( Yes, Can One Then Make/Do Anything/Something There at All?/I Want Something New )
2. Es ist noch nicht zu spät/Das ist der Anfang( It Is Still Not Too Late/That Is the Beginning )
3. Ohne Liebe bin ich nichts( Without Love I Am Nothing )
4. Mach's doch( Really Make/Do It )
5. Hey Pauli...ein neuer Ton( Hey Pauli...a New Sound )
6. Wenn die Sonne scheint( If/When the Sun Shines )
7. Das verträgt sich nicht mit uns( That Does Not Get Along With Us )
8. Hochzeit Je T'aime( Wedding I Love You )
9. Die Tür geht zu( The Door Closes )

Therefore, I would very highly recommend this to both Nena and non-Nena fans who really enjoy good music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two Incredible CDs!, August 29, 2005
This review is from: Willst Du Mit Mir Gehn (Audio CD)
The first, called "Red" is a proper studio record that has spawned several hits in Europe (especially her native Germany). It's loaded with some very clever, fast moving and melodic pop tunes that would get anyone singing along (if you know German). Despite not knowing what she's singing, her incredibly sultry voice raises any song a few notches and keeps my Alzheimer's-like attention span focused. Even the slower songs are rich and melodic.

The second CD called "Orange" was quite a surprise. I was expecting a disc of throw-away B-rated alternative takes, but instead found something with much more depth, moodiness and sophistication. The lyrics and instruments are much darker and would feel right at home next to my Cure and Echo and the Bunnymen records. I wasn't expecting this so it came as a very pleasant surprise.

Since purchasing this record two months ago I've hardly gone a day without listening to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nena never stops, July 21, 2005

This review is from: Willst Du Mit Mir Gehn (Audio CD)
Something I have always liked about Nena is that her style of music never really changed. She's always pretty much sung the same way throughout her music career. Every song on this album is great and if you like listening to her other stuff, I guarantee you will love "Willst du mit mir geh'n". Also, you should see her video to "Willst du mit mir geh'n" [...]. It's great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, Engaging, Passionate Album, December 27, 2006
This review is from: Willst Du Mit Mir Gehn (Audio CD)
What a great album! Nena has shown yet again her ability to reinvent herself. This is a two-CD set, the Red CD being more conventional, the Orange CD is what I would call "experimental," the result of a Mallorca jam session. But wow, the Red CD! Nena has always had the power of the draw in her songs, but here she has perfected it. Almost every song starts with a tease of some sort, a tension of expectation where you think that the song is really going to go somewhere, and on virtually every song on the Red CD, that is the case. Her quasi-rave Vitamine is excellent, you could call it Madonna-esque, except that it's better than Madonna. The best songs on this CD are Nena's own compositions. Nena has managed to express a yearning and passion in these songs which are usually the reserve of hungry young people half her age; when you listen to the music, you feel like you're 18 and in love again. The lyrics are, well, simple, but like most good rock n roll, you buy the music for the the beat and the passion and the way it makes you feel, not for the lyrical content. This is a no brainer, one of the best albums of 2006, in any language.

5.0 out of 5 stars Queen Nena, May 8, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Willst Du Mit Mir Gehn (Audio CD)
This is a wonderful collection of Nena at her best: German Neue Welle of the 80s. Her songs are simple, direct, and real in content and are well-supported by tight arrangments and her energetic band.

The bonus CD contains songs going in other directions. Not my cup of tea.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST CD OF NENA!, January 5, 2008
This review is from: Willst Du Mit Mir Gehn (Audio CD)
This is the BEST cd of Nena! WOW! I must say that the musical genius is finally arrived. So many deep, emotional ballads and up tempo music, so many songs, all tell the story that makes you want to listen to it more! The Red CD is the REAL new Nena cd and the Orange is the musical exploration CD - both genius - my absolute favorite Nena solo CDs. Finally I think Nena is maturing artistically - and seems she feels free to do what she really likes. The results is some excellent music that you cant get enough of - way to go Nena! Keep at it! Can't wait for more - the next album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad at all, August 5, 2006

Well so this is Nena's latest album...and it is really not that bad at all. OK to some degree it is still very typical of some european poppy new wave stuff from the 80's but it is still very fresh somehow.
