The new, improved 899 WE leather with tanned-in tack and deep pebble design combined with the 1005 small pattern and deep channels provide great gripability. Wilson's advanced Accurate Control Lacing System (ACL) replaces traditional laces with thick, pebbled composite leather laces, providing a softer, more gripable feel which translates to better control. The composite grip stripes ensure that no matter where you grip the ball--even if it's on the stripes--you'll always have control.

Amazing at first but didn't last,

I've had this ball for two years now. I only used it sparingly (compared to how it would get used on a high school or college team)to play flag football and an occasional pick-up game. When the ball was brand new it had the most amazing grip of any ball I've had before. I speak from a QB point of view when talking about the grip. The laces were thick and the composite stripe provided a good grip for my forefinger. However, after about a year the leather became really slick, especially in cold dry weather, and my thumb would slip a lot and my receivers complained about the slickness of the ball. It finally died on me today when I realized it was leaking air. Although my review has focused on the negative aspects, I give it four stars because during my first season playing with the ball it was simply the best ball I had ever thrown. I felt like I could throw a perfect spiral even if my throwing motion was off. Also, I haven't ever had another ball that didn't wear down after a couple years, but I just expected more from this one after being so happy with it initially. If you're someone who changes balls every season then this is a great ball to get. I wouldn't recommend it for throwing in the backyard simply because of price.

Purchased this football for my son. We wanted to have a ball exactly the same as his school's game balls. The ball was fairly priced and matched all expectations. Delivery was on time. No complaints with the purchase and the process. He just needs to break it in now. I was actually very pleased with he price as I had previously purchased a leather ball from a big box store at double the price.

My husband has been wanting one of these footballs for several years. They are on the expensive side and pretty much impossible to find in any of the sporting goods stores. I called several stores and looked on the wilson website to see who would carry this item and then called that store. The guy at that store said that they do not carry those and that they were expensive, around $80.00. My final stop was Amazon, I found exactly what he was looking for and for $15.oo less than the retail price, plus free shipping. He loves it, it was his favorite Christmas gift!
