After umpiring for over 20 years with a standard mask, I finally made the switch to the full helmet after taking a foul ball of my right ear. After wearing this helmet for one game, I vowed to never go back to a standard mask. This helmet breathes and allows good airflow to your head. The opening for sight is slightly larger than a standard mask, and I have found this much easier to see the pitch. Overall this helmet is light and very comfortable to wear. Because I do not wear a hat under the helmet, you do not get very hot, even in summer heat.
I highly recommend this helmet.

Took one directly to face in a college game and did exactly what it is suppose to do. I ordered from here because it was the cheapest and no shipping charges. I ordered a second for backup this time and use one for college and one for HS and Parkball. Never ..ever will I go back to regular mask!!!

It's a great helmet. I had only used masks before in umpiring, never the full helmet. The helmet gives me a better view than the mask ever did. It also protects my ears from balls bouncing up from my shoulder pads where the mask left me vulnerable. Finally, I was worried that the helmet would be a lot hotter than a hat and mask--it isn't, not even a little bit.

The only adjustment I had to make was to add a sweat cap of some kind. When I wore the mask, the hat I wore under it would eat a lot of the sweat from my head and it stayed out of my face. When I started using this helmet, the air channels in the padding channeled sweat right into my face. So I added a sweat cap...problem solved and I still have the better protection and better view.

I forced myself to use the ice hockey style helmet instead of the usual mask.

It works for me. As long as independent organizations like the American College of Sports Medicine, etc. independently test them with reported success, you should quit using the mask and use a helmet.

It looks tough too, so I don't know what's holding everyone else back.
