I bought the Wilton because of the 1 hP motor, and I was not disappointed.

The installation was simple. The shields went on easily. The base has only two bolt holes, but they are directly beneath the housing. So it's a little difficult to get the holes drilled and wrenches on the screws. But that's a very minor problem.

One other minor thing...

3.0 out of 5 stars Wilton 1 hp grinder, NOT
I bought the Wilton i hp grinder because of the price and the great Wilton name.
The grinder seems OK, vibrates a bit more than i would like but that seems to be the fault of the grinding wheels themselves.
However, this is NOT a 1 hp grinder. My grinder said 5 amps not 7 and so can only be, at most, 1/2 hp.

One other minor thing is that the mounting feet lift the base about 3/8-inch off the bench. This provides good isolation to minimize noise and vibration. But it's just enough room for pencils, drill bits, screws, and other small rolling items to get lost underneath.

So far, I have used it only once. It really is strong, and it quickly sharpened 3 lawnmower blades. The light worked fine. Everything seems to be high quality and well built.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good power for the price., March 3, 2008

I tried the cheap grinders 1st but they wouldn't even start when I put a wire brush on one end. This one starts right up and has plenty of metal grinding power.
Two slight detractions, the work light is not very bright, and the tool rests are very light, barely adequate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sharpening system, October 30, 2008

The grinder works great. I use it with the Woverine sharpening system from Oneway & it's doing a great job on my lathe tools. It comes with a 5/8 shaft, not the 1/2 that was in the specs. I figured it did when I ordered it. Oneway said the grits on the wheels would be fine for my purposes, but that I should upgrade when they wear down. It mounted nicely on a 3/4" ply mounting system & runs very smoothly, no vibration with the rubber feet that are standard - just don't tighten them down too tight. Needless to say, I'm happy with my purchase.

I piss myself off for not being able to turn down a "bargain". Last year I bought a cheap grinder from one of those traveling trailer tool sales. Of course it was junk. I paid $30.00 and I could have thrown that money out the window for better results. The thing vibrated so bad even bolting it down to my work bench did not help.
My new Wilton grinder arrived today. I can't believe how smooth it runs. I don't even need to bolt it down. Plus, it's up and running at full speed 10 times faster then that junk grinder. The light is just barely adequate but that's ok I'm right under a four foot florescent light so that's not a problem

Never again will I buy junk tools.
