4.0 out of 5 stars Wilton 21004 Columbian 4 inch X 7inch Woodworkers Vise, April 1, 2004

This review is from: Wilton 21004 Columbian 4-Inch x 7-Inch Woodworkers Vise (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have only used this vise a couple of times and so far it has performed up to my expectations. I was pleased to find out that the package contained the magnetic hardwood jaw inserts (these were a $30.00 option in another catalog I shopped in). The only problem I have with this item is that the name WILTON is clearly visible on the vise body in the Amazon ad. photo but the vise I received had no indication on the vise that it was a Wilton vise, only the packaging and instructions contained the Wilton name. I guess only time will tell if this vise will live up to the Wilton name or if I received a substandard imitation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wilton Mounting template, October 23, 2004

Long Time Reader "csassy" (Bryan, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wilton 21004 Columbian 4-Inch x 7-Inch Woodworkers Vise (Tools & Home Improvement)
As others have noted, the Vise picture and description certainly show the Wilton name, while the vise does not. My only complaint so far is the full scale template for drilling mounting holes. It clearly shows 5-1/2" center-to-center spacing. After drilling, using the template, the vise didn't fit. The template actually measures 5-3/4" center-to-center. The front to back spacing is right, so this is not simply a scale problem with copies - the template is wrong from the git-go.
It seems to me that a template that is wrong is worse than no template at all. Caveat Emptor.

4.0 out of 5 stars Why the Wilton Name?, September 13, 2004
This review is from: Wilton 21004 Columbian 4-Inch x 7-Inch Woodworkers Vise (Tools & Home Improvement)
Other reviewers were correct when they stated that the only thing "Wilton" about this was the name on the inserts. That being said, it appears to be a quality vise for the money - I'll know more when it's been used. Operation seems to be smooth and the finish is nice. My husband looked at and purchased several other quick release vises that ended up being taken back due to manufacturing defects or poor quality finish. As long as you aren't purchasing this for the Wilton name, you should be well satisfied.
