I had the old, old version of this pan but somehow lost it along the way. This pan makes the perfect cake for the skirt of the doll pick. I used a Duncan Hines cake mix and it was the PERFECT amount of batter. I bought a second mix in case I needed it. The baking time was correct as instructed for the pan. And the texture was perfect....a perfectly decorated cake isn't as impressive if it doesn't taste good. The only objection I have to this set is the pictures shown....which use fondant...and lots of it. You're supposed to roll fondant in "tubes" and stick on the sides of the cake in order to obtain the "waving" effect of the lovely skirt. I just did what I did in the old days....used a star tip and decorated the doll to look exactly like Sleeping Beauty. She turned out so pretty. Also...be sure to set the doll pick high enough on top of the skirt. Otherwise....there is no waist...which made her look like me! Chubby through the middle! And also, if you wish to style the hair, be prepared for this to take the most time! I was lucky...Sleeping Beauty's hair is left down. Have fun and enjoy!

Any girl would love this cake!,

I made this for my daughter's birthday, and it turned out amazing. Couldn't be easier to use, and clean-up was a snap. It also came with instructions for making several different dresses depending on your theme, AND it came with one dark-haired doll. I am so happy with my purchase, and will definitely be using this pan again.

Not just for little girls, women love these doll cakes too!,

Many years ago I started making doll cakes with this cake pan and love it so much that I wrote a book based on wardrobe-inspired cakes and cookies for women. A couple pointers for working with this pan:1) Use two cake mixes for this cake pan to make a full dress skirt. 2) Grease the pan and the center metal piece liberally with shortening and flour. 3) Once the batter has been added to the pan, smooth it out. 4) Remove all but one of your oven racks. Bake this cake on the second to the lowest rack. 5) Bake cake at 325 degrees so that the cake bakes evenly and the top doesn't end up with that center dome. It will take longer to bake because of its size. Do not keep opening the door because it will fall or bake unevenly in the center. 6) Ten minutes after you remove it from the oven, remove the center metal rod and use both hands (a clean kitchen towel on one hand and an oven mitt on the other) to turn the baked cake over slightly and release it from the pan slightly and then quickly put it back in the pan until completely cooled. What you're doing here is adding a little air to the bottom to "release the seal." Decorating ideas: 1) Fashion doll cake (11" tall): You'll need to add a base cake that is 9" or larger. I prefer using a 10" cake so that it looks like she's sitting on a pedestal. Use dowels in the base cake to support the weight of the doll cake. Wilton has white dowels that I suggest using. The wooden ones can move and you don't want your doll cake falling over. Use an 8" round for the bottom of your doll cake and cut a hole in the center so that the doll's feet go down into it. Make sure that you've wrap the lower half of your doll in plastic wrap so she's not touching the cake. Use a cake corer (Wilton has one) to take out the center so the doll fits in the hole and then fill in the gap with buttercream and decorate as usual. 2) Fondant skirt design - The easiest way to wrap the entire skirt in fondant is to use an 18" cake board circle as your pattern and roll out the fondant 1/4" thick. Refrigerate your buttercream iced or apricot preserves iced cake until cold and then evenly place the fondant over the skirt. The fondant will drape down over the cake, and you can gently use your fingers to smooth out any folds. (If you want to use an impression mat, use it as soon as you roll the fondant out and then cut out the 18" circle.) 3) Use Wilton's larger tips -- rose tip and leaf tip to make interesting patterns in buttercream and the smaller tips to create a beautiful bodice. 4) Change the doll's hair style to match the recipient. Use pearls or ribbons to create a unique style. 5) Make buttercream flowers and freeze. Place these strategically all over your tip 21 buttercream swirl design. 6) Make your doll cake to match a bride's gown for her bridal shower or in someone's favorite color, and they will love you! Have fun.

I made my daughter a really fun mermaid cake with this pan, but I sort of wish I hadn't bought the pan and here's why:It is not tall enough to fit a standard-sized barbie doll, I had to break the back of the cake a little to get my little mermaid to fit (she had to kneel in it). SO unless you are planning on just using the pick doll it comes with, it is really useless for real dolls. THere is a heating rod in the middle to help it cook evenly, but it was still pretty much raw in the middle but kind of burnt on the outside.

This works great. The cake always cooks nicely and the pieces are easy to assemble and understand. The pan is aluminum so be gentle as it does bend/dent easily. Use cake release for best results, it helps the cake come out easily. You can get Wilton cake release from at Walmart. The Barbie pick is useless though. Very ugly and cheesy. We used a regular Barbie and overfilled the pan plus I had to add a 8 or 9 inch round to get the height I wanted. Still it beats using your Kitchen-aid pan! I did that once and it was hard to ensure the cake was cooked fully inside and get it out without trouble. Happy baking!

This was a great idea for my little 4 yr old daughter's birthday! Even though I have very little baking and decorating talents, her cake came out fine, if not lovely. I just winged it with store bought icing which I tinted pink and added little cookie flower shaped decorations. She and all her little friends thought it was quite special... A good purchase! Will use it again for her 5th birthday :)

I am not a cake decorating pro,but this kit made a fabulous cake really easy! I used spray on frosting on the doll and for details, regular frosting on the cake. Easy and looks really great. Considering that professional kids cakes around here are $75 and up, this was a great option for a unique cake.
