Years ago, I used to use a regular spoon to drop cookie dough onto a sheet pan for baking. Needless to say, my cookies were anything but uniform in size, and sometimes the shape was not all that round. My fingers also wound up full of cookie dough. This is not always a "con" I realize, since cookie dough often tastes better than the baked cookie, but also not the best way to get the most cookies out of a batch of dough. I now have cookie scoops in every size available, and what a time saver! I'm left-handed, so this design is particularly helpful. Some scoops are made with a lever made for right-handed people - which means it's on the "wrong" side for me. Because I'm the only leftie in my house, I do have a right-handed ice cream scoop in my utensil drawer - which regularly serves to remind me that my cookie scoops are far superior in design and function! Additionally, this scoop has a metal slide which rotates a full 180 degrees when the handle is squeezed, allowing the dough to be easily dispensed. Depending on how sticky the cookie dough is, sometimes I spray the inside with vegetable spray and then squeeze the handle so the metal slide also gets lubed. These days, I can't imagine making cookies without using cookie scoops so they can be uniform in size and shape.

I ordered this as a cookie scoop and was suprised how much I did not like the working part of it. It is however a good scoop for size but just not for scooping cookie dough when it is cold. Warm dough would most likely be better. I had trouble getting cold dough into and from the scoop. I may just be to much of a picky person.

I thought this scoop would make cookie making easier but I was disappointed because the cookie dough kept sticking in it and it kept slipping off its gears. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone

I purchased this for my left-handed niece who said she couldn't find one. It can be easily used with either hand. Liked it so much I ordered it in 2 sizes.

It is the right size for a smaller cookie. However it sticks a little upon release of the dough. Not quite as smooth as my oxo grips. I'll be purchasing the smaller size in the other at a later time. It's okay if you're making a small batch, but if you're making large batches of cookies, it is just annoying.

I was all excited to find the Wilton cookie scoop at such a great price...but I guess you get what you pay for...it broke the first time I used it! The quality is horrible and it's really a shame because I love Wilton brand products

I make a lot of cookies and paid more for this Wilton scoop because it was supposed to be designed for cookies. The gear slipped places within a week, during which I made 2 batches of cookies, and now the band that is supposed to release the dough is misaligned and does not release the dough cleanly. I bought a scoop for half the price at Smart and Final, which has the same band but uses a thumb lever to move it; and this has proven to be much more durable. This Wilton scoop may still be useful for melon or something very soft, but it is definitely not up to cookie dough, whatever they call it.

I enjoyed using this scoop. Mechanism was smooth and it is just the right size for measuring out cookie dough.
