The front jaw moves up to 9/16-inch to act as a full-length dog. For versatility, the pivot jaw can be removed for wider clamping requirements. This vise is only a little more expensive than other woodworking vises, but it has three features that set it apart and make it worth the extra money.
1. The swivel jaw allow clamping non-parallel workpieces.
2. The entire outer jaw rises to act as giant dog. This is much more secure than a small pop-up.
3. The U-channel protects the screw threads from debris and makes the whole vise very rigid.
The quality of the casting, fittings and paint is excellent too. The jaws are massive thick chunks of iron... clamp something in here and it definitely won't move!

They make quick release versions too but I don't like QR.
