This is an excellent vise if your looking for maximum clamping power. There are several methods of fastening this vise to your work bench that make it a wonderful additional to woodworkers of all skill levels. I would also recommend the addition of maple and/or hardwood facing to this vise to prevent damaging the wood being held.

This vise has tremendous power and is very precise. The quick release works great and makes adjustment a breeze. It is heavy as all get out, though, so make sure you are up to the task of moving it around. That bulk makes it a bit tricky to set up for mounting it precisely, but once you've set the lag screws in place it isn't moving - ever. It's engineered to keep shavings and dust out of the screw, which makes maintenance a non-factor for the most part. The sliding action clears larger shavings and I occasionally wipe it with a rag and wax the top. I haven't noticed any racking, and the pivoting jaw (removable) equalizes pressure for oddly shaped parts.
I highly recommend it.

I taught woodshop for 25 years and always used Wilton vises so when I had to buy a quality vise for the new workbench I built recently it was an easy choice. It is solid and easy to mount. I really like the movable jaw that allows you to clamp irregular objects.
